Tabla Indian Cuisine Winter Park

216 N Park Ave # H,
Winter Park, FL 32789
(321) 422-0321

At Tabla, you will be delighted in the visual creations that entice the eyes and enliven the palate.

Tabla Indian Cuisine is where your senses come alive with the aroma of fresh Indian curries, Indo-Chinese delicacies and Thai spices in the air.

The vision here is to reflect the flavors of Tabla Cuisine, with ambiance, service, and modern presentation. Tabla’s Cuisine offers a symphony of Indian, Indo-Chinese, vegetarian, vegan, and Thai flavors and spices that is designed to excite both the neophyte and the connoisseur alike.

The new Winter Park Location was previously occupied by Paris Bistro, and the folks at Tabla did an amazing redo of the interior with white stone work, mirrors, wine racks and new dining tables and chairs. In fact, it is so nice inside, one would think you are at a fancy high end restaurant, but it is a perfect redo for the Winter Park Crowd.

A Tabla is a pair of small drums that have been fundamental to Hindustani music of northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh since the 18th century. Much like the musical sounds and instruments used in traditional Indian music, the foods found in those regions have become fundamental in shaping cuisine all over the world.

The menu features a great mix of Indian, Chinese and Thai flavors and spices with classic dishes and new twists on old favorites. That's what makes tabla so unique.

You can find Thai green curry and basil fried rice for a taste of Thailand, or fresh from the tandoor kebabs, chicken tikka, and garlic naan for a taste of India and classics like general tso’s chicken with a side of crab rangoon for your Chinese food cravings.

For something really tasty, the Indo-Chinese fusion dishes like the cauliflower Manchurian and lemon coriander soup are pretty exciting as well, as are the artistic versions of classics like mango tiramisu and gulab jamun brulee.

Tabla’s chef, Sajan Premajan is a culinary artist known for his original and inventive food presentations, which he attributes to his traditional training and inspiration from his Asian heritage. Tabla Cuisine is now in two great locations, Tabla Indian Restaurant in Orlando and Tabla Indian Restaurant in Winter Park.

Inside of the all new Tabla Winter Park.

A sparkling Rose and a Woodpecker beer from India. Both do a great job of cooling your mouth down and enhancing the flavors of Indo-Chinese foods.

Gobi Manchurian, is a good twist on Indo-Chinese food. Gobi Adraki is traditional Indian cuisine, but tossing the crispy fried cauliflower in Tabla’s signature Manchurian sauce makes this a perfect crossover dish. It is one of my all time favorite appetizers.

Garlic Naan...Garlic Naan... is anything better than this wholesome and delicious warm and crusty Garlic Naan from Tabla?

The delicious sauces served with your pappadum are actually a Chutney. The green one, called hari chutney in Hindi, is generally made with a mixture of coriander, mint, sugar, salt, turmeric and a pinch of lime juice and of course curry powder. The red chutney, called imli chutney in Hindi, is very often made with the juice of tamarind (imli in Hindi). Tamarind is soaked in water, strained and mixed with sugar, rock salt, toasted and ground cumin, dry powdered ginger, and powdered pepper. Pappadum is a thin crisp round or rolled Indian flatbread that is fried.

Butter Chicken, a North Indian Delicacy is made in a rich buttery Tomato Cream Sauce with chunks of chicken and served with a side of Basmati rice. This is a tasty and fragrant dish that is absolutely mouthwatering at Tabla.

Although I asked what is better than Garlic Naan previously, I can tell you Red Pepper Spicy Naan is either 1 B, or a very close second. Chef Premajan did not hold back on us and gave us super hot and spicy naan that was excellent, and full of flavor.

Certainly everything Chef Premajan serves up at Tabla is excellent, but we were blown away by the Palak Gosht with Bone-in Goat cooked in braised Spinach and Garlic with a Tomato-Onion Masala. Simply some of the most delicious, tender and flavorful goat I have ever had, and the masala mixture was phenomenal.

When ordering food at Tabla, most dishes can made according to your heat levels, aside of items like Chicken Vindaloo, which the can not be altered, so if you love some good Indian Heat, a nice ending of Chocolate Samosa with Masala Chai Latte Ice Cream and chocolate drizzle is not only a great ending, but a great way to cool your mouth off.

Tabla Winter Park is open Monday to Thursday from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday & Saturday from 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM and Sunday: 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM

Both locations serve up excellent Indo-Chinese fare, and the food is really impressive, but the new Winter Park location has definitely stepped up the game with a beautiful remodel and elegant atmosphere.

Antonio's Trattoria and Wine Bar

528 S Park Ave.
Winter Park, FL 32789
(407) 636-7222
View Website Here

Antonios Trattoria and Wine Bar started out as a place to grab a good slice of pizza, enjoy some salad and wings and a glass of wine or two. The inside was complete with exposed brick walls, a rather basic menu and red and white checkered tablecloths.

In the last few months, things have drastically changed, and they are now focused on a Trattoria Italian-style eating establishment that is generally less formal than a ristorante, but more formal than an osteria.

In Tuscany, a Trattoria rooted in tradition may typically provide no printed menu, casual service, wine sold by the decanter rather than the bottle, and low prices, with an emphasis on a steady clientele rather than on haute cuisine. Food tends to be modest but plentiful (mostly following regional and local recipes).

Inside Antonios is definitely more of an authentic Trattoria with the redo that was done. The walls have decorations on them, the red and white checkered tablecloths have been upgraded to white linen, and the vibe is definitely upscale, but still very casual with modest pricing, and the pizza is a thing of the past.

Food here focuses on traditional Northern and Southern Italian cuisine with dishes that reflect the regions very adequately. Sauces are made fresh with the highest quality ingredients delivered daily.

The heart of Antonio’s is in their food, they work hard and do good with simple cuisine that reflects the regions from which the food comes from. They are eager to share the family traditions with you and welcome you to the family, too.

I usually don't post about free complimentary bread offered at most restaurants, but this bread at Antonio’s was special. Fresh, Crisp, and loaded with Parmessan and a very fine Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I can gladly tell you, we ate the whole loaf.

I love a good Buratta, and the one served up here is pretty awesome. Burrata Pugliese E Parma Prosciutto features some exceptional Burrata, arugula, fresh tomatoes, Parma ham, roasted peppers and Modena balsamic reduction.

If you love a great Carpaccio, like I do, then look no more… Carpaccio di Manzo con Rucola and Parmigiano is simply amazing, this dish is made with thinly sliced filet mignon, arugula, shaved reggiano and truffle oil, and is hands down some of the best I've ever had.

Northern Italian fare is really based in Butter and Cream sauces, rather than traditional red sauces, and Tortellini con Panna E Piselli at Anthony’s is a great example of that, this is a magnificent pasta dish that is made with Veal stuffed tortellini, pancetta and peas in a reggiano cream sauce. This was simply outstanding.

On the left we have Filetto di Sogliola alla Francese, a Sole fillet Francese style in a chardonnay lemon sauce that was so flavorful and just fell to pieces when going for a bite, and a very great piece of Sole fillet. On the right is Scaloppine di Vitello alla Valdostana, a Veal scaloppini topped with prosciutto, fontina cheese and sage in chardonnay sauce over sautéed spinach.

Although we would have loved one of the many great desserts Antonio’s offers, like a fine cannoli, we settled for a really great espresso made with Julius Meinl coffee from Vienna, which was very strong, delicious and reinvigorating.

Whether you prefer a dish inspired by northern Italian cooking such as Tortellini con Panna E Piselli or a southern Italian delight inspired by the bright lively Mediterranean taste that most people associate with Italian cuisine, you’ll find the same commitment to bold yet balanced flavor common to all great Italian cooking at Antonio’s La Trattoria.

Antonio’s is closed on Monday. They are open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 am to 10: 00 pm.

Thai Villa

7355 Aloma Ave
Winter Park, Florida
(407) 677-8957
View Website Here

Thai Villa is in a very unassuming location, tucked away in a little area on Aloma Avenue that shares space with a dance studio and a tattoo parlor, but the food here is anything but unassuming.

Family owned and operated for years, the people here take pride in the food they serve, and they double up on that with friendly and exceptional service.

This little Thai place has delicious food at reasonable prices for lunch and dinner, and one can ramp up the heat to "Thai Hot", but taste buds beware....that level gets pretty hot. If you are uncertain about heat levels of Tahi Food, your best bet is just to add heat with the spice tray, and control the burn.

From Traditional appetizers, to Pad Thai Dishes, Duck, Curries, Seafood dishes, Salads, and of course Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Villa has exactly what you are looking for.

We started off with Chicken Rolls with Plum Sauce, but I requested the Peanut Sauce instead, and they were delicious.

Sure, pan fried dumplings, or steamed dumplings are great, but have you ever had Deep Fried Dumplings? Simply amazing, and the first I've ever had them deep fried.

The Double Delight was excellent with Chili Jam Sauce, Cashews, Onions and Peppers, Snow Peas and Celery. I chose beef as my protein. This is a dish more on the hotter scale, but was not too hot. This is served with a side of white rice.

Smoky and the Bandit at Thai Villa with Shrimp, Clear Noodles, Cabbage, Baby Corn, Bell Pepper and Celery in a smoked pepper and soy sauce was simply fantastic.

No stop at a really good Thai Restaurant is complete without checking out the quality of their Mango Sticky Rice, and the version served up at Thai Villa is Amazing. Its especially amazing when looking for a great dessert and something to cool your tongue after eating hot Thai Food.

Thai Villa is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, then reopens for Dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm. They are closed on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday, they are open till 10:00 pm. Sunday they are open from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and reopen at 5:00 pm and close at 9:00 pm.

Arooga's

227 South Semoran Blvd.
Winter Park, FL 32792
407-986-9464
View Website Here

Arooga’s calls itself a slightly above average grille house and sports bar, and I like that. Better food than most sports bars around, lots of TV’s and a fun clean environment to enjoy sport and food.

Most of the food is made in house prepared by chefs instead of factory workers as they call it. The fresh baked bread, wings, sauces, salad dressings, the house made soups all taste pretty darn good.

The TVs here, are TV-er. You can see every game from every seat in the restaurant, and they mean every game, because they have every sports package available all 365 days of the year on nearly 1000 flat screen tv's between all of their locations.

They have free wi-fi, Buzztime trivia and NTN Texas Hold 'em with over 80 menu items under $8.99, and several other items priced over $8.99 for the rich folks. So if you're looking for great food prepared and served by above-average people that prepare and serve great food, you'll find it at Arooga's.

Based out of Pennsylvania, this is the only Florida location of Arooga’s. They have a handful of locations in CT, NY, and NJ, and the Florida location makes number 20 overall.

Almost all Arooga’s Locations have over 30 beers on tap or in a bottle, but they have some pretty good cocktails also, like this Spicy Bloody Mary on the left and an Ultimate Long Isdland on the right.

There is plenty of room at the bar here also, and Arooga's has partnered with a local Craft Distillery to produce Sagoora Premium vodka. (Arooga's spelled backwards) it is distilled 4 times from grain, charcoal filtered and hand sealed.

I've never had Fried Banana Peppers before, but these beer battered tots with a Troegs Beer Troegenator Doppelbock batter with sriracha aioli were quite tasty.

Amish Pierogies were very good also, actually surprisingly good and perfect two bite size that was great for sharing.

I'm always a sucker for Truffle Tots, and these Truffle Tots at Arooga’s with white truffle oil, truffle aioli and shaved parmesan did not disappoint.

Ok, so the Ghost Face Killa wings are a challenge wing that requires you to sign a waiver as they have a dry ghost pepper rub. They were good, They were Hot, but they were not that hot. Mostly a front tongue burn, but hardly worth signing a waiver for.

The Philly Cheese Steak Boli is really damn good with shaved steak, beer caramelized onions, green peppers and mozzarella with cheddar and house marina. Boli is short for Stromboli.

BBQ Pulled Pork N Bacon Mac N Cheese was delicious, this is a huge skillet of creamy white cheddar mac n cheese piled with sustainably raised, no antibiotic ever pulled pork, Hickory Smoked Honey BBQ and topped with crispy bacon.

The Donut Grilled Cheese was happiness in your mouth with a griddle glazed donut, American Cheese, and 4 strips of applewood bacon.

The Signature Baked Potato Soup with thick chunks of baked potato and savory bacon in a creamy soup topped with mozzarella & cheddar cheeses, then baked in the oven and drizzled with sour cream was pretty exceptional as well.

The Prime Brisket Sandwich at Arooga’s was really good, but it looked much better in pictures as this was a tad bit smaller and not as fancy as it looked. The 14hr smoked Brisket was good on the multi grain bread.

Funnel Cake Fries were a great dessert to share at the table and quite delicious.

Arooga’s… A slightly above average sports bar? I was actually impressed with the quality of the food here and the flavors. The menu is huge, and there is something for everyone, and there is also a TV for everyone... I would say it's a little bit more than slightly above average for a sports bar.

If you're looking for fun and good food, you'll find that at Arooga’s. If you're looking for your boyfriend and/or girlfriend, they haven't seen him and/or her.

Arooga’s is open every day from 11 am until 2 am, The kitchen is open until midnight or later.

Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen Presents "Feast of the Seven Fishes" for Christmas Eve

1234 N. Orange Ave.
Winter Park, FL 32789
(407) 543-3474
View Website Here

Taking its inspiration from classic Florida fish camps and offering coastal cuisine in an inland setting, Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen specializes in sustainably sourced seafood from the Sunshine State’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar is a contemporary version of a classic fish camp, serving fresh Florida seafood prepared in a southern style and served in a casual, family friendly environment. With Winter Park being located almost directly between Florida’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts, they are in the perfect place to receive daily shipments from the state’s top sustainable seafood purveyors.

The menu is pretty set, but they do have occasional menu additions that explore delicious fish and seafood sustainably sourced from waters further afield, that is served with generous helpings of laid back Southern hospitality.

One such menu addition worth exploring is the return of the second annual Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner on Monday, December 24th.

The food will be served at a communal table and shared among 50 guests with wine pairings and dessert to finish it off.

The evening begins with a warm reception with a sampling of snacks that include Octopus Ceviche, Baked Clams Casino and Shrimp Mac & Cheese paired with Gratien & Meyer, Rose Champagne, Cremant de Loire, Brut, France.

Baked Clams Casino.

After reception diners will move on to family style sharing platters that start with savory flavors with Whiskey Shrimp and then Seafood Nachos paired with Blue Rock, Baby Blue Blanc, Sonoma Coast, 2017.

Whiskey Shrimp with Wild-Caught Key West Pink Shrimp with Jack Daniels Cream Sauce on Sourdough.

Seafood Nachos topped with Blue Crab & Crawfish over House-Made Wontons.

The Fried portion of the dinner is next with a whole fried Hog Fish and a whole fried genuine American Red Snapper with smothered tomatoes & okra and french fries paired with Bravium, Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley, 2015.

The whole fried Hog Fish was incredible.

Bravium, Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley, 2015.

For intermezzo, or a break between everything guests will be served Gulf Oyster Shooters featuring Tito’s Vodka.

After all of the shareable plates are served, each guest will get an individual plate of Cioppino, a pasta dish made with Clams, Shrimp, Scallops, Grouper and Tomato Broth over Linguine. Cioppino is an Italian American Fisherman's Stew. This is paired with Bertani, Valpolicella Ripasso, Veneto, Italy, 2014.

The Cioppino was just phenomenal. The Chef and Kitchen staff said it's all about the broth for this dish to be just right, and it takes perfect execution.

For dessert, Mike’s Famous Carrot Cake and a Seven Layer Chocolate Cake is served with Graham's 20-Year Tawny Port.

I don’t know what Mike puts in his “Famous” Carrot Cake, but it is hands down one of the best carrot cakes I've ever had.

The Seven Layer Chocolate Cake was very good as well. Very rich, moist and delicious.

Tickets are $69 per person (plus tax + gratuity) and can be reserved by calling (407) 543-3474. The Feast begins at 6:30 pm, and is available for the first 50 guests.

In the giving spirit of the holidays, Reel Fish will be donating 10% of all the Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner proceeds to the Coastal Conservation Association.
*Menu and wines subject to change based on availability*

Savor a coastal dining experience for the holidays that features comforting, chef-crafted classics with inventive recipes and unique gourmet fish sourced directly from local Southern waters all at a price that is very affordable
