Caffe Positano -Sanford

Food is not a commodity at Caffé Positano’s…it’s a passion. Owned by two brothers and two cousins, the authentic Italian foods and flavors of Positano, Italy have been brought to Central Florida.

Close friends since childhood, these family members prepare food with only the finest ingredients. Virtually each meal is prepared for you as you order. There are no pre-cooked or pre-packaged foods in this kitchen.

The sauces are made fresh each day; the house salad dressing is made from scratch with olive oil, red vinegar, and seasonings, and then whipped into a creamy consistency. No thickeners or cream are added.

Vegetables are cooked “AL DENTE”, which means they are not over cooked, in order to retain vitamins, flavor, and texture. They use only the finest imported Italian pasta, and Gnocchi, which can often be heavy, but here it is melt in your mouth and as light as a feather and is made fresh daily in house.

The use of extra virgin olive oil is a must and they do not use any type of tomato paste. Be assured that only the finest ingredients are used to prepare your meal. In an age where pre-cooked and pre-packaged foods are the norm, you can come to Caffé Positano’s and enjoy a relaxed environment with a freshly cooked meal…the way it’s supposed to be.

The Apopka Location is the original, and offers a bit more of a higher end sit down and eat restaurant experience, whereas the Sanford location is a straight up cafe. They do have plenty of seating and table service, but it's more of a cafe environment than the original in Apopka.

The Garlic Knots here are top notch! Loaded with butter, garlic and Parmessan, these things will disappear fast.

The Caprese was simple and delicious with fresh sliced tomato, thick slices of fresh Mozzarella, olive oil, basil and black olives.

We really enjoyed the Calamari, Nice and lightly battered with a good crispness and not chewy at all.

The Eggplant Rollatini was awesome as well, with eggplant stuffed with Ricotta cheese and topped with mozzarella and tomato sauce.

Stromboli was simply amazing. You can order this in a variety of ways, this one was a simple pepperoni, mushrooms and extra cheese. The dough was buttery and magnificent, and it was fully loaded.

Surprisingly, the hot wings, and the curly seasoned fries here were quite impressive as well.

The Baked Lasagna with Ricotta, Mozzarella Cheese and Meat Sauce was quite delicious.

I love a good Veal Parmigiana, but it is getting increasingly harder to find. The one at Caffe Positano is on the money...delicately smashed, breaded, fried, and served with the right amount of tomato sauce and pasta, puts this dish in my favorites category.

We really enjoyed the simplicity of the Sanford location with great service and even better food. This place is good for a quick bite, or a sit down and eat meal with the family.

My next venture shall be to the original in Apopka, but I was very impressed with the Sanford spot.

Caffe Positano Sanford is open on Monday to Thursday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday they are open to 10:30 pm, and Sunday they are open from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.

MidiCi Italian Kitchen - Daytona Beach

At MidiCi the mission is to bring friends together around pizza because it behaves like a friend, it connects people. It crosses barriers and unites people.

The pizza served here is the Original. Pizza with a capital N. Neapolitan Pizza.
The way Italians invented it over 300 years ago. It is authentic, made with few and fine ingredients, and accessible to everyone.

Staying true to Neapolitan heritage, the dough is made with only four fine ingredients – non-GMO double zero flour imported from Naples, pure water, sea salt and live yeast. The authentic and pure garnishes include – crushed non-GMO Italian peeled tomatoes, fresh whole mozzarella and non-GMO, Italian extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil.

They serve way more than pizza here too, with a great selection of meat and cheese boards, antipasto dishes, salads, desserts, beers, wines and some really good coffee too.

This is fast casual, so you do have to walk up to the counter and place an order, but that is where the fun starts. They have a few classic styles of Neapolitan pizza you can choose from, as well as specialty pizzas, and of course you can make your own pizza with whatever toppings you wish.

One of the big differences between the Midici we visited in Kissimmee, and the one in Daytona Beach is a Liquor License. Midici Kissimmee serves wine and beer, but this location has a full bar, with great cocktail options like these two drinks...The Angel's Margarita on the Left and The Devil's Margarita on the right are both made with Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime juice, simple syrup. The Angel is sweet with blackberries and the Devil is heat with Fresno Chili Peppers.

Burrata with Melon & Prosciutto is a great antipasto selection to start your meal at Midici. This is served with Burrata, melon, prosciutto, extra virgin olive oil and a balsamic reduction drizzle with wood fired Neapolitan bread. All appetizers are served fresh with balsamic reduction and wood-fired Neapolitan bread.

The House Meat & Cheese Plate with Black truffle cheese (sottocenere al tartufo), Goat cheese, Parmigiano-Reggiano, rosemary ham (cotto), prosciutto, spicy Italian salami (calabrese) is big enough for 2. This is served with Kalamata olives, dried apricots, dates, walnuts and honey.

We really enjoyed The Italian Salad. This is made to share, and it’s full of seasonal greens, Romaine lettuce, Neapolitan salami, bell peppers, grape tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, Kalamata olives, Parmesan, crushed croutons and tossed in a housemade Italian vinaigrette dressing.

Spaghetti Bolognese is a new addition to all Midici menus, and it is made with Angus ground beef sauteed with herbs in a housemade Italian tomato sauce served over spaghetti. This was very good, but I could have used a little more sauce.

Calzones are also new on the menus here, and while they have a variety of options….Do not miss out on the Truffle Calzone! This is simply amazing...made from truffle cream, black truffle cheese, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, parmesan and basil.

We made a custom pizza using the New York Margherita as the base that includes marinara sauce, fresh shredded mozzarella and parmesan and we topped it with applewood smoked bacon cherry tomatoes and feta cheese, and it was excellent.

Although the Nutella Calzone at Midici is simply phenomenal, sometimes all you have room for is a an Affogato with Salted Caramel Gelato. This is perfection in a cup, and a great way to end your evening.

Midici Daytona is open from Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm. On Friday and Saturday, they are open from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm.

If you are in the area, stop by and grab some great food, and enjoy a cocktail or two.

Buca di Beppo Opens New Location in Celebration

6282 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy.
Celebration, FL 34747
(321) 219-2822

The first Buca di Beppo opened its doors in 1993 in the basement of a Minneapolis apartment building.

Since then, the brand has grown to over 100 locations worldwide. The all new Celebration / Kissimmee location marks the third one in the Central Florida area, and the seventh one in the entire state of Florida.

Buca di Beppo strives to capture the fun and enthusiasm of an authentic Italian family gathering along with delectable food. If you have ever dined with an Italian family, then you understand that the food is always a big priority and the portions are more than plenty. The dishes served up here are inspired by the cuisine enjoyed for generations in villages throughout Italy and are served family style, meant to be shared by the entire table.

The menu is inspired by various places around and throughout Italy, as Buca tries to serve up authentic Italian fare. They have continued to innovate and create recipes beyond their traditional style by adding new menu items inspired by Northern and Southern Italian cuisine.

Everything from salads, antipasto platters, flatbreads, mussels, calamari and a large variety of pastas fill the menu. A Buca small serves two to three, and a Buca large serves up to 5, as everything here is served a la carte family style only.

Inside of every Buca di Beppo restaurant is an eclectic setting designed to make every occasion a party. The vintage setting is always a point of conversation with all of the walls covered in family photos and candid shots of Italian American icons such as Sophia Loren and Joe DiMaggio. Each room at Buca is themed, and all restaurants have a Pope table which is the largest single round table in a room with a bust of the Pope as the centerpiece.

The bar is very colorful and lively and continues on the eclectic decor and whimsical lighting.

All Buca locations have a large wine list, but they also serve up pretty good cocktails like the Buca Berry Lemonade on the left and a Sparkling Sangria on the right.

The Antipasto Platter is a new addition to the menu and it is loaded with prosciutto, pepperoni, salami, provolone & fresh mozzarella with arugula, pepperoncini, green & black olives, roasted red peppers, marinated artichokes & Parmesan crostini.

Fried Mozzarella with housemade marinara sauce is an old standby, but it's always delicious.

Italian Sausage & Arugula is also a new addition to the menu and it is topped with spicy Italian sausage, prosciutto, mozzarella, provolone, garlic, arugula and balsamic glaze. This was really good, and a bit spicy.

Our table really enjoyed the Chicken Carbonara that is made with a cut up chicken breast, prosciutto, peas and garlic in rich Alfredo sauce.

I love a good Eggplant Parmigiana, and in fact this one at Buca di Beppo is as close to homemade as I have had. This is battered, fried and stacked eggplant topped with homemade marinara sauce, Roma tomatoes, basil & mozzarella cheese.

The Quattro al Forno is a good way to sample a few different things. This dish comes with four items...Cheese Manicotti, Chicken Cannelloni, Cheese Ravioli & Stuffed Shells.

Although the sauce was a tad sweet, everyone at our table really loved the Chicken Marsala with baby portobello mushrooms in a traditional Marsala wine reduction sauce.

You can't go wrong with any dessert selection at Buca di Beppo, but this gigantic slice of Tiramisu is pretty fabulous. It features homemade ladyfingers soaked in dark rum & espresso, layered with sweetened mascarpone cheese & topped with cocoa & crumbled hazelnut biscotti . If you add an espresso with this...its close to perfect.

I've been to a few Buca di Beppo locations with family, friends, a wedding reception..you name it, and everyone has always had a great time. Sit back and listen to the classic tunes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and be prepared to eat.

The friendly staff and whimsical atmosphere are sure to be a hit as you can't help but laugh at all of the funny pictures of Italian family members throughout history. Stop by the new location in Celebration and say Ciao.
