Dexter's Lake Mary

Founded by Dexter Richardson and John Hoffmeister, Dexter's is a local and established contemporary restaurant where you can enjoy great food and live entertainment.

The executive chef of the Lake Mary location, Rich Kutza, has mastered creating and preparing dishes that are not only fresh, but locally sourced. Guests can enjoy the wine from the unique, extensive collection by the glass or bottle or choose one of the crafted cocktails from the full bar. Dexter's is known for excellent food and service including an award winning Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas.

From a simple build-your-own sandwich to a carefully prepared entree, everything is made fresh. Choose from the main menu or from the daily cafe menu that features seasonal ingredients. The cafe menu and wine lists change so often that you'll always find something new and different to enjoy.

Originally there was four separate Dexter’s locations, all headed up by the same group, but they have in fact been sold and split up between as many as three buyers.

Scott Joseph, the acclaimed original Orlando food critic was first with the information, stating that “Greg Peters, the founder of Graffiti Junktion will take over the Thornton Park and Winter Park Locations”.

“Jeff Hofmeister who was an original partner with Dexter Richardson and Adrian Mann in all four locations has sold the Lake Mary location to Hospitality Investment Partners, and ownership of the Windermere location has gone to Tom and Holly Ziupsnys, who also own a restaurant called Dulcetto in Championsgate”.

We started with an Appetizer of Fried Calamari, which ended up being very disappointing, because the calamari itself was very tender and not chewy at all, but it lacked breading and seasoning, and it was a shame really.

The cocktails we had were very good, on the left is a traditional Old Fashioned made with With My Crew Blended Scotch Whiskey, and a Holland Mule made with Nolets Gin...but a Mule not in a Mule Copper Cup is no Bueno!

We did enjoy the Dex-Mex Chicken Egg Rolls that feature Blackened chicken, fire-roasted corn salsa, black beans, sweet onions, peppers and pepper jack cheese all rolled in a crispy Won-ton and served with an avocado ranch dipping sauce.

Kutza's Dockside Catch with Blackened Mahi, Key West tartar, lettuce, tomato, and onion ring on a butter toasted Brioche bun, served with Kickin’ Old Bay Chips was really good, but this would have been much better served as a dish and not a sandwich. The bun got very soggy in only a few minutes and crumbled. The Mahi Mahi was delicious but needed to stand on its own and not be on a sandwich bun.

Did someone say Truffle Fries? The housemaid truffle fries at Dexter’s are tossed in a Parmesan scallion coating and were crispy and delicious.

The Spicy Shrimp Provencal is made with pan seared shrimp seasoned with curry, fresh garlic and sweet chili, tossed with Capellini Pasta, tomato chunks and green onions. This can be ordered mild, medium or hot. Of course we got HOT, with a side of extra red pepper and it was pretty darn good.

The Bar at Dexter’s Lake Mary is where all the action is at. This place was packed the whole time we were there, and it was a pretty happening place.

Overall, the food here is hit or miss here, some things can be really good, others, not so much, but they have an avid bar scene that seems to attract all the locals. I remember the famous tortilla pie that put Dexter’s on the map, but it was absent on our menu.

Dexter’s is open on Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Thursday to Saturday they are open from 11:00 am to 1:30 am, and Sunday they open at 10:30 am for brunch and close at 10:00 pm.

Kona Poké is a healthy, fast-casual food concept that serves fresh and delicious Hawaiian-style poké bowls with fresh sushi grade fish, house sauces, vegan, gluten free and cooked options available.

Guests of the 1,300 square foot restaurant can choose from a variety of Signature Poké Bowls, Build Your Own Bowls, Soup, Salads and Mochi Ice Cream, which they’ll savor inside Kona’s contemporary, inviting restaurant vibe with subtle elements of poké’s Hawaiian heritage.

Kona owners Matthew Ting and Ernie Falco III come with decades combined of restaurant ownership, management and marketing experience. Ting co-owns and operates multiple successful Tijuana Flats locations companywide, and Falco founded and sold several highly successful internet based brands, including JetCharters.com.

“We are elated to finally open our doors and provide the freshest vibe and food around,” says Ting. “It is healthy, yet so extremely satisfying, it’s addictive. With our high-quality raw ingredients, Hawaiian poké techniques and distinctive interior design, we are bringing features from the realm of formal dining to the world of a fast-casual restaurant."

Kona Poke has several signature poke bowls, like the Kona Fire, Salmon Lover, Tidal Wave, and a Classic Hawaiian to name a few, but guests are also free to create their own bowls and choose a variety of bases, proteins, mix-ins, as well as toppings and sauces to create their own unique bowl.

We started with a Ginger Side Salad made with fresh iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes and a delicious mandarin orange sesame ginger dressing.

I really really enjoyed the Kona Fire Bowl, This is made with fresh ahi tuna, classic hawaiian sauce, seaweed salad, green onions, sesame seeds, avocado, onion crisps, sriracha aioli...and more sriracha!

The Salmon Lover was very interesting indeed, mainly because of the spicy seaweed salad. This bowl features fresh salmon, spicy seaweed salad, crispy onion, cucumber, edamame and a lemon tartare sauce.

For something a little more sweeter and balanced out, the Tidal Wave is a good option with fresh ahi tuna, seaweed salad, green onion, crispy sweet onion, avocado, eel sauce and sriracha aioli.

Mochi Ice Cream, if you have never had it, is a small, round confection consisting of a soft, pounded sticky rice dumpling filled with traditional ice cream flavors and dusted with cornstarch to keep it from sticking to your hands while eating it. We had Chocolate, Strawberry, Mango and Green Tea samples at Kona Poke and all were really good, as well as light and refreshing.

Fun Fact: What is poké? Pronounced POH-keh, poké is cubed raw fish eaten either on its own or over a bowl of sushi rice. While it may seem like a new trend, the Hawaiian dish has been around for centuries.

Bonus Points: They have plenty of the Yellow Sriracha!

Kona plans to open 20+ locations throughout the Southeast over the next several years. They are open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday to Saturday, and they close at 8:00 pm on Sunday.

Buffet’s usually get a bad rap, and with good reason. Most of them offer large quantities of food at a decent price, but the food is usually two grades above slop level. I've always held to the idea that a high quality Vegas style buffet would do well in Orlando. One with quality selections of chef carved meats and live action chef stations with enticing sides like one might find at the Bellagio. Fred’s Market isn't quite on that level, but what it does do, it does fairly well.

Fred's Market Restaurant serves up a taste of farm to plate freshness, with food that is slowly cooked in a natural and unprocessed way. The restaurant aims to provide a cozy atmosphere full of warmth and fun. It's southern comfort food that's pure and hearty all the way to the core.

The buffet for dinner is full of traditional southern fare like Fried Chicken, Pot Roast, Pulled Pork, Chicken Pot Pie and a host of sides like Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Green Tomatoes, and of course an extensive salad and soup bar with a dessert bar as well. Fred’s also offers a weekday and weekend breakfast buffet as well, with biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and you can even get the famous fried chicken in the AM.

Fred's Market took over the recently closed Romano’s Macaroni Grill. aside of a few touches here and there, the inside and outside is relatively unchanged from the previous tenant.

The salad bar has something for everyone.

There are plenty of fresh fruits and an assortment of fruit and vegetable salads on the buffet. I really enjoyed the broccoli salad, as well as the apple raisin salad.

All of the food I tried was pretty good, but the Fried Chicken here is the star of the show. Dare I say…it could be some of the best fried chicken in Central Florida?

A variety of southern comfort side dishes.

It doesn't get any more southern than banana pudding, red velvet cake and pumpkin pie.

Here is a loaded plate with fried chicken, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and a fried green tomato.

Overall, I was very impressed with the food at Fred’s Market. All of the food was fresh and seasoned very well. If you are looking for some good southern comfort food at an affordable price in a family friendly atmosphere, stop by Fred’s Market.

Fred’s is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00am to 9:00pm, and Sunday from 8:00am to 9:00pm

Liam Fitzpatrick's

Colonial Town Park
951 Market Promenade Ave.
Lake Mary, FL 32746
(407) 936-3782

I always enjoy restaurants and bars that really try to go for an authentic as you can get style with food and decor. When it comes to Irish food in Orlando and surrounding areas we have a few smaller locations like Harp and Celt that do a decent job at providing that atmosphere and traditional food cravings from the homeland. Of course there is the larger Raglan Road at downtown Disney and Meg O'Malleys Irish Pub in Melbourne FL, but I have yet to find somewhere in between these until I visited Liam Fitzpatrick’s.

Located at the Colonial Town Park Shopping Center in Lake Mary, Liam Fitzpatrick’s, is carrying on the two hundred year old tradition of a great Irish Pub with a hearty mix of great food and drink, warm and friendly hospitality, good music and great conversation. Liam’s was inspired by the owners visits to Ireland and by the wonderful times they experienced there. Their desire was to bring the spirit of that great culture of food and friendship to Lake Mary where upon stepping through their doors you can feel as though you are with friends and ready to enjoy a great time.

Outside of Liam’s, you will be drawn in by the classic exterior, which resembles a traditional Irish pub. Once inside, the Irish pub decor takes things up a notch with elaborate rich wood furnishings and accents. Two separate pub areas, front of house and back, offer fully stocked bars with perfect pours of Guinness or whatever you may be in the mood for. The inside is very spacious and open with plenty of seating. There is also a private dining room which is available for pretty much any type of event you would like to have.

Liam Fitzpatrick’s is lively and festive at anytime of the day. There is live music almost any night of the week and Saturday nights feature dueling pianos. There are yearly block parties which include St. Patrick’s Day, Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, New Year’s Eve and many more keeping Liam’s largely involved in the local community and always a happening place.

The menu here consists of your traditional Irish favorites like Shepherd's Pie, Corned Beef & Cabbage and Fish & Chips. However, the creative team at Liam’s, has put together some additional mouth watering items with an Irish twist. Some of these items include the Galway Burger, an Irish Cheese Steak, Curry Chicken and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Of course it goes without saying, Guinness and a selection of other craft beers and cocktails are available to help wash down all of this delicious food.

The Baileys Irish Coffee is a great pick me up at the end of your day, and a “Perfect Pour” of Guinness in a proper 20 ounce tulip pint glass is sure to satisfy your thirst.

Scotch Eggs are pretty common to find at most Irish pubs, but Liam’s has spiced up this classic appetizer by rolling the eggs in chorizo sausage before breading them. This was a unique twist that I really enjoyed.

Although not a “traditional dish” the Apple Walnut Salad was outstanding. This salad is made with baby spinach, walnuts, apples, goat cheese, and dried cranberries tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette. For an additional charge, you can have grilled or blackened chicken or shrimp added to this salad. We opted for the blackened shrimp, and the savory flavors blended well with the sweetness of salad.

The Corned Beef and Cabbage is roasted in beer for ten hours and is served with cabbage, boiled red potatoes and a horseradish Dijon sauce.

This is a proper fish & chips with jumbo pieces of haddock fried in special recipe batter served with tartar sauce and mushy peas.

The Shepherd’s Pie at Liam’s is made with a blend of ground beef and lamb with carrots, onions, peas, celery and corn baked with a cap of mashed potatoes. For an added bonus, you can have them top it off with melted cheese.

For an Irish American twist, the Galway Burger is Angus beef, topped with Irish Whiskey glazed onions, lettuce, tomato and imported Irish porter stout cheese (which sometimes doesn’t make it through customs) and Guinness BBQ sauce. This burger is loaded with flavor and does not disappoint. You can get a number of side items with this burger and we chose the sweet potato fries.

Bread & Butter Pudding is a traditional Irish bread pudding made with raisins, served with whiskey creme anglaise and is ridiculously good.

The Baileys Cream Cheesecake is a signature cheesecake made with Baileys Irish Cream, topped with chocolate and caramel. It is very rich but very delicious.

Whether it’s a business lunch, a gathering with old friends or a celebration with new friends, Liam’s provides a great setting for your visit. With a wide ranging menu of great home cooked food to suit every taste and pouring some of the best beers and wines in the world, Liam Fitzpatrick’s delivers an authentic Irish experience in warm hospitality that can only be described as brilliant!
