With more than two decades of experience at AAA Four and Five Diamond hotels, acclaimed pastry chef Alon Gontowski has joined the award-winning culinary team at Orlando's Rosen Centre.

He will be enhancing the many delicious indulgences available for special events, groups and Everglades Restaurant guests at the International Drive luxury hotel.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Cherry Hill, N.J., Chef Alon has dazzled diners across the United States, with stints in the kitchens of Connecticut's Mohegan Sun, Las Vegas' JW Marriott, Harrah's, Desert Inn and The Rio, and most recently at Tampa's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Along his career path, he developed menu selections for more than two dozen restaurants, among them Todd English's Tuscany and Michael Jordan's Steak House.

His accomplishments also include a silver medal in the American Culinary Federation's pastry competition and a Guinness World Record as part of the team that created the world's largest wedding cake. However, taking the top prize on Food Network's "Sweet Genius" TV competition lifted his rising star to new heights.

At Rosen Centre, Chef Alon joins an award-winning banquet and catering staff recognized for excellence in food and beverage at one of Orlando's premier meetings properties.

"We're excited for the opportunity to showcase the talents Chef Alon with all of the Rosen Centre team members," Michael Rumplik, Executive Chef, Rosen Centre. "As we continue to expand our talents, guests will enjoy many sweet memories."

Exceptional service and attention to detail are the hallmarks of a Rosen Centre event, from casual coffee breaks to fully themed, lavishly decorated functions. Led by culinary masters with experience at some of the world's finest venues, the banquet and catering staff creates dishes of incredible quality and unparalleled flavor, presented in stunning ballrooms, elegant meeting rooms and a tropical, poolside oasis.

Chef Alon also will bring his wizardry in sugar and chocolate to the menu of Rosen Centre's award-winning Everglades Restaurant, where guests experience the flavors of Florida crafted from locally source seafood, meats and produce.

Describing his techniques as old school with a touch of the contemporary, Chef Alon says that while he loves "the controlled chaos of the kitchen," the greatest reward is knowing when he's delighted a guest with a sweet memory they'll treasure long after.

"The greatest joy of my profession comes from catering to our guests' expectations," he said. "There's nothing like the pride of seeing their reactions to our desserts."

Rosen Centre is located at 9840 International Drive in south Orlando. For more information, including special packages for overnight stays, upscale dining, catered group events, expansive meeting facilities and more, visit RosenCentre.com or call (800) 204-7234.

Say goodbye to the former North Quarter Tavern and hello to City Pub.

Craig Ustler, the well known developer, who is heavily involved in the Downtown Orlando Creative Village, amongst many other things, decided in late 2017 that it was time to relinquish North Quarter Tavern.

He decided to start an operating partnership with Church Street Entertainment, a name that should be synonymous with most Orlando locals, as they already own such popular downtown spots like Ember, Latitudes, Cahoots, Chillers, Irish Shannon’s, 180 Skytop Lounge and Crafted.

For over 27 years, Church Street Entertainment and its principals have locally owned and operated bars and restaurants in downtown Orlando, and they have now brought their passion and expertise to the North Quarter District.

From owners to bartenders, old timers to newcomers, the City PUB team takes pride in living and working in the neighborhood and helping the local community thrive.

Located in the heart of the North Quarter District in Downtown Orlando, the interior of City Pub features high top and dining room seating with multiple TV's so you never miss your favorite game with artwork that displays the history of Orlando dotted along the walls.

The menu features classic and remastered pub favorites that is handcrafted and chef driven. Executive Chef, Adam Dierks takes the lead in the kitchen and offers a distinctive menu that includes bar snacks, appetizers, savory salads, shareable dishes, classic pub favorites and heartier entrees.

Next door to City Pub is the sister space… Bitters and Bottles. This is a sophisticated yet comfortable night spot in Downtown Orlando, that is the only spot in the North Quarter District serving craft cocktails and a curated wine list alongside the chef driven bar snacks.

City Pub has a comfortable bar with seating around all sides that serves local craft beers and a variety of handcrafted cocktails.

We started our evening with Dirty Chips that feature yuca chips, sweet potato chips, dried parsnips and beets with an amazing garlic cream dipping sauce.

The Hummus was as fresh and tasty as it gets with chickpea hummus, English cucumber, carrots, pickled beets, grilled artichoke hearts and grilled pita bread.

For a sampling of cocktails from the bar at City Pub, we ordered the House Margarita with Patron and sweet agave nectar on the left and an old fashioned with Bulleit bourbon on the right.

We really enjoyed the Grilled Salmon entree with Zellwood corn risotto, grilled asparagus and a lemon beurre blanc sauce. The salmon was flaky and cooked perfectly and when combined with a bite of the risotto it was magical.

I think this may only be a Friday night special at City Pub, but you absolutely have to have the slow braised Lamb Shank ...this literally fell of the bone and was so flavorful and absolutely delicious, served with roasted potatoes and grilled Brussels sprouts.

After our meal and a few cocktails at City Pub, we walked across the hall and entered Bitters and Bottles. This is a pretty upscale handcrafted cocktail lounge with amazing drinks, great ambiance and a chill vibe. The artwork here is more of the same from inside City Pub with murals and paintings of Orlando. We were really impressed with the set up here.

Once inside we ordered a Lavender Mint Collins and a Whiskey Sour with Jim Beam Double Oak, and both were exceptional.

City Pub also offers one hell of a Sunday brunch deal. For $29.99 you get unlimited mimosas, interactive action stations that make red velvet waffles, carving stations with smoked salmon and other meats, a variety of fruits and vegetables, custom made eggs and pasta dishes from the kitchen.

We really liked City Pub and Bottles and Bitters, and think it is not only a great replacement for North Quarter Tavern, but a great addition to North Downtown Orlando.

City Pub is open from 11:30 am to 2:00 am Monday to Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 12:30 am.

Bitters and Bottles is open from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am Monday to Saturday, and they close at 12:30 am on Sunday.
