Mission BBQ opened its doors for business on September 11, 2011.
Ten years after the world changed forever, in some small way they wanted to change it back.

The founders of Mission BBQ, strive every day to remind everyone what makes Our Country great, which is its heroes.

Two friends passionate about BBQ, patriotic for their country, and who believe in running a business with meaning and purpose, decided to open up the first Mission BBQ with a belief  that there is nothing more American than BBQ, and nobody more American than the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve our communities and our country.

They do what they do for the love of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders and all our loved ones in service.

The founders of Mission BBQ, Bill Kraus and Steve Newton journeyed across Texas to Kansas City, the Carolinas to St. discover the secrets of great BBQ, and they now have 41 locations in 11 states and are still growing.

Everyday they strive to serve authentic BBQ made from the freshest, most delectable ingredients, and serve it to you in a patriotic dining room filled with tributes to those who’ve made our country great, given to us by the people who earned them.

The menu has all the classic and traditional BBQ items you would come to expect, like Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Smoked Sausage, Smoked Turkey and Pulled Chicken that is available as combo or as a sandwich with a variety of side offerings. The sides include Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw, Green Beans, Brisket Baked Beans and fries to name a few.

Like many places today, Mission BBQ is fast casual, where you walk up, place your order, and when it is ready, they will call your name and you go and grab your tray of food.

The Brisket Sandwich is packed full of delicious brisket, and Mission BBQ does not skimp on the meat, this was served with Brisket Baked beans with large chunks of brisket and french fries.

The Ribs are no joke here either, they literally fell right off the bone, and didn't need any extra BBQ sauce. Every meal is served with a side if sweet cornbread, and on this order of RIbs, my dining guest ordered the Brisket Baked Beans and a side of Collards, which are seasonal.

I'm not usually a fan of pulled chicken, as it tends to be dry, but Mission BBQ does it right with a very flavorful and moist pulled chicken. This was served with Collards and Green Beans & Bacon.

I went with the XXL Combo with Brisket, Pulled Pork and Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage with a side of Maggies Mac & Cheese and Brisket Baked Beans. This was enough for a meat coma, and it was all delicious. The brisket can be ordered wet or dry, and I went with the more flavorful portions of brisket ordered wet.

Stop by at lunchtime, and you might catch them during the daily salute to the Stars and Stripes. At Mission BBQ, they proudly serve those who serve. Stop by and help them complete their Mission.

Mission BBQ is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday they are open till 10:00 pm, and on Sunday they open at 11:30 pm and close at 8:30 pm.

4R Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck Set For Late August in Disney Springs

Disney Springs Marketplace
Buena Vista Dr.
Orlando, FL 32830
View Website Here

The award-winning 4R Restaurant Group will launch its newest concept in late August with the opening of its 4R Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck located in the Marketplace at Disney Springs.

The eatery will debut a variety of new signature dishes, including a Taco Cone and Burrito Bowl filled with choice of meats such as Brisket Barbacoa or Pork Sofrito.

The 4R Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck will also offer stand out vegetarian options like the Squash Blossom Burrito. Additionally, decadent desserts such as Dulce De Leche Churro Balls will be available.

“It’s an honor to open the 4R Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck at Disney Springs in the company of so many talented chefs and award-winning restaurants,” said John Rivers, 4R Restaurant Group Founder and CEO. “Our first-ever daily 4R offering at Disney Springs will provide an opportunity for tourists to savor an authentic local brand. It will also give Floridians who know and love our food an all-new 4R experience and chance to enjoy dishes that are not currently available at any of our 4 Rivers Smokehouses.”

Inspired by his recent culinary adventures in Mexico City, Rivers has developed the food truck’s barbacoa-style menu. Dishes will feature signature 4 Rivers meats such as brisket and pulled pork, but prepared using traditional barbacoa techniques – methods with roots in the Caribbean and ultimately perfected in Mexico.

The opening of this Mexican-inspired barbacoa eatery marks the first time a 4R location will be available to guests at Disney Springs. The 4R Cantina Barbacoa menu has been crafted with the same pride and passion that has earned 4 Rivers Smokehouses some of the culinary world’s highest accolades, including recently being named “America’s Best Barbecue Chain” by The Daily Meal.

The 4R Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck at Disney Springs will be the only 4 Rivers location to offer service seven days a week – including Sunday. Following in the philanthropic footprints of the 4R “Barbecue Ministry,” all net proceeds from sales every Sunday will support The 4R Foundation, which in 2017 helped more than 950 local schools, churches and charitable organizations. All other 4 Rivers Smokehouse locations will remain closed on Sundays.

After Chef John Rivers returned from his most recent trip to Mexico, he came back really inspired by some great dishes while he was there.

Naturally he wanted to share what he had found, so 4 Rivers Restaurant Group will debut four new limited time only “Smokehouse Summer” dishes at its locations in Florida and Georgia (excluding downtown Orlando).

Available from June 4th to August 4th, the Smokehouse Barbacoa Bowls will be offered in four varieties – Brisket Barbacoa, Nana’s Pork Sofrito, Chicken Tinga and Black Bean & Cilantro Rice.

“We’re excited to celebrate one of our favorite times of the year at 4 Rivers with the delicious new Smokehouse Summer offerings and family fun happenings,” said John Rivers, 4 Rivers Founder/CEO. “The Barbacoa Bowls serve our signature smoked meats in an all new flavor combination that will introduce guests to a side of 4 Rivers they may have never experienced.”

4 Rivers Sweet Shop will also offer two limited time only summer specials. In June the featured dessert will be a Mountain Dew and Doritos Cupcake and in July a Coca-Cola and Potato Chip Cupcake.

I was fortunate enough to visit the 4Rivers Test Kitchen and not only get to hang with John Rivers, but also get a first bite of the new Smokehouse Summer Specials.

This is the Chicken Tinga Bow. The chicken is shredded and prepared in a tomato chipotle sauce, then it is served with rice and black beans, salsa verde, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, queso fresco and cilantro topped with a sliced jalapeno. A This bowl had great flavor with a good spice.

Next up was Nana's Pork Sofrito Barbacoa Bowl. All Barbacoa Bowls will have base ingredients like black beans and rice, Pico de gallo, Cilantro, sour cream, and queso fresco, but you can add or subtract any ingredients you wish.

Here is the Brisket Barbacoa Bowl made with 4Rivers famous beef brisket, that is served with rice and black beans, salsa verde, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, queso fresco and cilantro topped with a sliced jalapeno.

While visiting your local Smokehouse, 4 Rivers guests can show their summer spirit by taking pictures at the Smokehouse Summer photo booth with their friends, family and food. Guests are encouraged to share their photos with #4RSmokehouseSummer on social media for chances to win prizes.

All prize packages include a beach towel, beach tote, 4R koozie, magnet and pen. Weekly rotating prizes include 4R spice rubs and BBQ sauces, 4R insulated water bottle and an autographed copy of John Rivers’ The Southern Cowboy Cookbook.

As a thank you to teachers on break, 4 Rivers is extending a 10 percent discount to all teachers with valid ID this summer. Additionally, each Smokehouse will host a backpack drive benefiting selected local Title 1 elementary schools. The drive will take place during a two-week period prior to the start of the school year – dates to be announced. For every backpack filled with school supplies that is donated, the donor will receive a free sandwich at that Smokehouse.

On Friday, June 15 and Saturday June, 16 each Smokehouse will offer family friendly Father’s Day activities including cookie decorating kits for kids and special gifts to buy dad such as Pitmaster Kits and 4R merchandise. Beginning June 1 each Smokehouse will offer complimentary “A Date with Dad” invitations for children to color and give to their fathers.

For the first time ever, this 4th of July 2018, 4 Rivers Smokehouses and Catering will be open this year on the holiday from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

Chicken Salad Chick

12101 University Blvd
Orlando, FL 32817

View Website Here

Based in Auburn, Alabama, and founded in 2008, Chicken Salad Chick defines itself as a dine in restaurant that serves homemade chicken salad, side salads, desserts, and refreshing beverages.

The chain consists of 43 franchise restaurants and 8 company owned stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee with plans for expansion ongoing.

The company was built out of a love and passion for chicken salad and was started in a home kitchen by Stacy and Kevin Brown. Stacy was making her chicken salad at home and selling it out of the front door with overwhelming popularity, that eventually led to opening up the first stand alone location. It all started with the basic chicken salad recipe that was perfected by Stacy and now includes fifteen different varieties of chicken salad.

Flavors range from Olivia’s Old South with sweet pickles & egg, Fruity Fran with a blend of Fuji apples & seedless grapes, Cranberry Kelli, a mixture of dried, sweetened cranberries and slivered almonds, Nutty Nana with pecans & cashews all the way to Barbie-Q, Buffalo Barclay for wing lovers to the really hot Jalapeno Holly with diced jalapenos galore. We sampled every single flavor, to many to mention, but they were all very tasty and unique in their own way. All of the chicken salad and side salads are prepared fresh daily

The Pimento Cheese is a vegetarian option that was really flavorful. This is made with a blend of freshly grated sharp & pepper jack cheeses combined with just a smidge of creamy house dressing.

Side dishes at Chicken Salad Chick include a Pasta Salad with tri color rotini pasta in an Italian based dressing with feta and Parmesan cheeses, black olives and artichoke hearts, Broccoli Salad made with fresh broccoli florets tossed in a sweet vinegar based dressing with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, topped with crispy bacon, Grape Salad with red and white seedless grapes covered in a sweet cream cheese mixture, topped with brown sugar & crushed pecans or a cup of Fresh Fruit Chilled with freshly cut strawberries, blueberries and red and white seedless grapes.

All of the side items we tasted were really fresh and can be ordered with a combo, or as an individual side.

Although there is plenty of room inside to sit down and eat, the restaurant falls into the “Fast-Casual” category. After ordering your food, you grab a seat and someone brings your food out to you. Of course you can take your food to go as well.

If you are not sure what chicken salad you would like, just ask for a sample of the flavor you are curios about and you can taste a dallop by itself, or with a cracker.

You can order a large bowl of your preferred chicken salad for $10.99, or get a combo with a single scoop, or a sandwich on a variety of breads with one side item, a pickle and a cookie for $7.69. You can add another side for a dollar more. I ordered the Jalapeno Holly on a croissant with broccoli salad and a snickerdoodle cookie. It was very hot, and also very delicious.

My wife ordered the Kickin Kay Lynne on a croissant just as a sandwich only. This was an awesome combination of buffalo sauce, ranch, bacon, shredded cheddar cheese & jalapenos all in one chicken salad.

The menu also features soups and a handful of deli sandwiches like the Turkey Hoagie, Roast Beef, Virginia ham and a Pimento Cheese sandwich. If you have a lot of people to feed, Chicken Salad Chick also offers full service catering for your next party or event. They can prepare it for you and deliver it to your location, or even have the staff come set up your special event.

With 15 different chicken salad flavors and a full deli, there is something for everyone to choose at Chicken Salad Chick. The concept is really cool, and really southern and that's a good thing. We enjoyed our time here and felt like were in a down home atmosphere as we enjoyed our chicken salad and sipped on sweet tea.

Melting Pot : Dip into Summer

7549 W Sand Lake Rd.
Orlando, FL 32819
(407) 903-1100

Some of my first childhood dining memories began at the The Melting Pot. The first Melting Pot opened in April 1975 in Maitland, Florida and served only three items on its menu. With permission from the original owners, Mark, Mike and Bob Johnston opened The Melting Pot of Tallahassee in 1979. As the restaurant expanded its franchise, the menu grew larger. In 1985, the Johnston brothers purchased all rights to the Melting Pot brand.

Sadly, on June 1, 2008, the original location in Maitland closed, but there were already enough additional Melting Pot locations to replace the original one. My family has always been very fond of fondue, and that is why I have always been a big fan of The Melting Pot.

I mean who can refuse a relaxing four course experience that begins with a cheese fondue prepared table side with artisan bread and vegetables for dipping and a fresh salad while your entree pot heats up followed by a decadent chocolate fondue as the finale?

If you love The Melting Pot as much as I do, you may not think things could get any better, but I must warn you, the all new "Dip Into Summer" special is rather awesome. I always order my fondue with the oil for it a southern thing if you will, but the Old Bay seasoned broth for boiling with this limited time offer has me rethinking my position.

In addition to a ridiculously good BBQ brisket cheddar fondue, the all new “Dip Into Summer” special features pacific white shrimp, scallops, lobster & shrimp ravioli, andouille sausage and succulent crab claws.

Instead of oil for frying, this special is prepared with an Old Bay seasoned cooking broth that features fresh corn on the cob, red potatoes and andouille sausage.

The BBQ Brisket Cheddar fondue was outstanding. It features chunks of savory smoked barbecue brisket, medium sharp cheddar and Emmenthaler Swiss cheeses with fresh tomatoes and scallions. The usual dipping items of various breads, green apples and a vegetable assortment are included with this as well.

I'm not usually a fan of wedge salads, but this was quite tasty. A crisp iceberg wedge is served with sliced Roma tomatoes, Gorgonzola cheese, hardwood smoked bacon and peppercorn ranch dressing.

The Summertime Sipper is a perfect drink for this time of year. One sip and you will feel like you are at the beach relaxing. This cocktail contains fresh watermelon and cucumber with Malibu rum and fresh lime juice to create a refreshing cocktail you’ll want to sip all summer long.

For all the beer drinkers out there, the Melting Pot has you covered as well. This refreshing beer flight from Sam Adams Summer Ale and Lemonade, features Black Cherry Blush, Ruby Red Crush & Lively Lemon flavors in 7oz servings. Each flavor also available in full 12oz size.

Last, but certainly not least, is the Banana Split Chocolate Fondue. This dessert combines all the flavors of a classic banana split into a decadent milk chocolate fondue with cherries on top.

The summer menu is available now through July 31st and also includes options to add a lobster tail and 4 more crab claws for an additional charge.

I really enjoyed this dining experience and taking a detour from my normal fondue selections. If you love summertime, seafood, cool cocktails and great fondue, then head to your nearest Melting Pot before this special ends.

American Q

1905 Hotel Plaza Blvd
Lake Buena Vista, FL
(407) 827-3080

View Website Here

The all new American Q at the B Resort is open for business, and they may be in the running for best beef brisket in Central Florida.

American Q is a rodízio-style concept offering a modern take on classic barbecue. Just picture the ultimate Americana version of of Texas de Brazil or Fogo De Chao, and you get the picture. At the helm is Executive Chef Justin Leo, who has curated a unique menu that caters to the palates of barbecue enthusiasts, highlighting the flavor profiles of more than a dozen regions throughout the United States and Latin America.

As soon as you enter, the first thing you see is the hard to miss ’51 cherry red Ford F1 pickup truck sitting front and center. Its a really cool truck, and comes loaded with its own flatbed buffet. Guests are welcomed into a completely transformed industrial country-style setting with multiple seating options that range from a communal table to booths and a semi-private dining room that seats 40. The look inside is set amidst the charm of a distressed brick smokehouse, a barn-inspired wood-clad bar and mason jar chandeliers.

For $34.95 per person (tax and gratuity additional), you can indulge in an all you can eat barbecue journey. Start with more than 20 selections from the flatbed, which highlight Florida’s fresh produce, specifically micro-greens, lettuce and tomatoes. House made specialties like the daily soup and chili and a selection of seasonal salads like a Florida tomato salad are just a few of your options. Of course nothing says Americana like a baked potato bar and a baked sweet potato bar. There are other made from scratch sides too, like spinach gratin and house apple & caraway slaw as well as a touch of the south with Gulf peel & eat shrimp.

After you visit the buffet, its time to loosen up your belt a few notches and get ready for the rodízio parade of barbecue meats and poultry. You will get an endless selection of slow smoked turkey drum, cold smoked & grilled turkey thigh with turkey chorizo stuffing, bacon wrapped boneless chicken thighs, house made sausages, smoked pork shoulder, Texas bark beef brisket, picanha of beef, Carolina style flank steak and vegetable brochette. You then have the option of having the complementary soft serve ice cream for desert, or you can order off of the ala carte menu.

In addition to the one price buffet you can also order main dishes that include a selection of 16 additional offerings. St. Louis spare ribs, 6 hour smoked spare ribs, grilled Argentinian spiral house made sausage, and a wood fire grilled jerk rubbed whole boneless snapper are a few of the options.

All of the meat at American Q is from Florida Fresh Meat Company and is grass fed, hormone free beef and pork as well as free range chicken. The restaurant is dedicated to supporting local farms when possible and makes several items from scratch including their sausages, sides and sauces.

I was able to take part in a media preview event and was really blown away by the quality of the meats, and all of the attention to detail they have put into American Q. I literally ate so much food, it hurt, but it was all so very good. So follow along as I take you on this tour, and try not to go into a meat coma...

In addition to a starter of house made tater tots and devilled crab stuffed eggs, the Swine Candy was an instant hit. The Smoked bacon is roasted with molasses and spice and is served nice and crunchy.

Chef Leo’s personal touches include a baked-to-order Cornbread Skillet, which is included complimentary with the buffet.

The Virginia Oysters are served with bacon jam and are grilled in shell which gave them a wonderful flavor.

Alligator Boudin was a very unique and flavorful sausage made with farm raised gator, tomatoes, peppers and okra.

The Mahogany Glazed Pork Belly with spicy watermelon salad was another awesome appetizer.

My trip to the Flatbed Buffet included maple baked beans, pasta salad, apple & caraway slaw, and chili.

I don't say this lightly, but the BEEF BRISKET at American Q is quite possibly the best beef brisket I have had in Central Florida. I mean WOW good.

The Bacon Wrapped Boneless Chicken Thighs were really good. They had a very nice smoky flavor, and were moist and tender.

One of my favorites was the Smoked Pork Shoulder. It is cooked with spiced onions that add a bit of a sweetness to the smokiness.

The Slow Smoked Tom Turkey was pretty good as well. It was cooked with a Mahogany glaze.

We did sample some of the Main Dishes like the Hot Smoked Salmon and a selection of ribs. The St. Louis Spare Ribs and the Texas Bark Beef Ribs were pretty tasty.

Just like a traditional rodizio grill, American Q has its own Picanha of Beef. Its a prime cut of top sirloin that is grilled to perfection. It was delicious on its own, but I added a splash of Mango Heat sauce to kick it up.

Deserts were very good and very home style. The Berry Cobbler was something like your grandma use to make.

The Croissant Bread Pudding with apple compote was very enjoyable. Its a classic dessert with a gourmet twist.

By far, the S'mores Pie was the favorite. Layered graham crackers with flourless chocolate cake and topped with toasted rich and so good.

American Q also has a full service bar that offers creative cocktails, wines and a large selection of craft beers from regions throughout North America as well as a dedicated nine item bar snacks menu. Items included are the restaurant’s signature Swine Candy,  House Made Tater Tots with bacon salt and Deviled Crab-Stuffed Eggs with blue crab and remoulade.

The restaurant is open daily for dinner from 5 p.m to 10 p.m. and the bar is open Monday through Friday 2 p.m. to midnight. On weekends American Q is open at noon. A daily Happy Hour features half off drinks and is available from 4 to 7 p.m.

This is a fun place to bring the whole family, or just a group of people who want to devour some meat. I really like the concept, and all of the old world American decor and vibe that American Q has going on, not to mention the food as well. All of the meat we sampled was very flavorful and cooked with a sense of down home BBQ pride.

Tip*- After you are done eating and are about to fall into a meat coma, there are a few leather couches and some large lounge chairs located at the front of the restaurant that you can use to sleep off your meat induced sleepiness....
