Magical Dining at Reunion Resort

Due to the disruption from the Hurricane, Visit Orlando has extended it's month long food celebration an extra week to October 7th, so now we have more time to hit up some  great spots to eat at great prices.

One such spot is Reunion Resort. Both restaurants on the property, Eleven and Forte are participating in Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month that started August 23rd and is now going on through October 7th with Prix fixe menus available in both for $35.

They have put together a spectacular selection of food with full size portions and amazing flavor, and for $20.00 extra, Forte and Eleven are offering a wine pairing for each course. The selections are sophisticated, and may surprise wine enthusiasts with wines from different regions and grapes.

Reunion Resort is also a recent winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The AAA Four Diamond-rated resort has earned this prestigious award for the Master Wine List, which contains 94 wines, at its signature restaurant Eleven. The award is given to those restaurants whose wine lists excel in offering interesting selections that complement their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine enthusiasts.

The offerings at Eleven are a Filet Mignon Egg Roll, Iceberg Wedge Salad or an incredible Lobster Bisque for appetizer. Entree selections include NY Strip with mashed potatoes, Airline Chicken and Pan Seared Grouper. Dessert is your choice of Vanilla Flan, or Chocolate Cake.

At Forte, the appetizers start with Crispy Calamari, Roasted Italian Sausage or Endive Salad. Entree Choices consist of a Delmonico Cast Iron with gnocchi bolognese, Red Snapper Pappardelle and Shrimp Scampi, or Airline Chicken Saltimbocca. For dessert you have a choice of Tiramisu or a Trio of Miniature Gelato Cones.

I recently had the opportunity to sample a few dishes from both restaurants at the resort, along with the wine pairing. Not only was it delicious and well prepared, but when you think of the food you are going to get here for $35.00, it’s kind of a steal, especially at such a nice resort as Reunion Resort is.

Endive Salad is at Forte with blue cheese, candied walnuts, and mustard dressing, you can pair this with Una, Gruner Veltliner, 2017 from Austria.

The Lobster Bisque was amazing with butter poached lobster, green onion crème fraîche, and you can enjoy this even more with O:TU Merlot Rosé, Awatere Valley, New Zealand served at Eleven for an appetizer.

Airline Chicken Saltimbocca will be a main course option at Forte with a Marsala Sauce and you can pair this with Ceres Composition, Pinot Noir from Central Otago, New Zealand.

Prime NY Strip with mashed potatoes, asparagus and peppercorn sauce is available at Eleven with a wonderful peppercorn cream sauce, pair this with a Katherine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, California 2016.

Pan Seared Grouper is also available at Eleven with roasted tomato grits, broccoli slaw, and a citrus cream sauce. This pairs perfectly with Groth, Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley.

Red Snapper Pappardelle and Shrimp Scampi will be offered at Forte with pappardelle pasta in a white wine butter sauce, and is excellently paired with Pazo de Senorans, Alberino, Spain 2016.

Tiramisu is available at Forte, and Vanilla Flan pictured on the right is available as a desseert option at Eleven for Magical Dining Month.

You will not be dissapointed at Reunion Resort with these excellent options for Magical Dining Month, and trust me, the $20.00 extra for the wine pairing is money well spent, with such extensive and amazing wines.

Reunion Resort features 360 resort-style accommodations ranging from luxury multi room villas to private three- to 13-bedroom vacation homes, as well as 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Widely recognized as a top golf destination, Reunion is the only location in the world featuring three signature championship golf courses designed by golfing legends Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson.

Zoetic Sushi

210 S Park Ave.
Sanford, FL 32771
(407) 461-2954

Chef Chuck Cobb has taken the traditional art of Edomae Sushi and brought it to downtown Sanford, not only elevating the already growing scene in the area, but also adding another Omakase spot to Central Florida.

What is really unique about this private chef’s tasting is that it is located in the ZL Home’s modern high end showroom right in the heart of historic Downtown Sanford.

This Japanese style dates back over 200 years. The Edo Sushi Style grew up on the streets of Tokyo as a necessity. Since the sushi was prepared and sold on the streets at a time long before refrigeration, Street food vendors cured the fish with salt, vinegar and soy sauce.

Chef Cobb hand picks the freshest fish imported weekly from Tokyo Japan, and fresh fish suppliers locally. After thoroughly inspecting the fish he begins the process of aging the fish to bring out the umami of the fish.

Varieties of fish like Spanish Mackerel, Golden Eye Snapper, Sweet Bafun Uni from Hokkaido, Cold Water Scallops, Hairy Crab, Spiked Crab and Cuttlefish are used in the Omakase Presentation.

Chef Cobb also uses the finest ingredients he can find to round out the presentation with items like Tamaki Gold rice, and Akazu Vinegar, which is vinegar made from the run off of Sake-Lee and then fermented and aged.

Kegani or hairy crab and Heikeigani a spiked crab.

Hijiki Seaweed Salad made with Hijiki seaweed with lotus root, ginger sesame oil, red and green peppers. You will never want any other seaweed salad after this.

A tasty one bite serving of Hokkaido scallop with uni and ikura(salmon roe).

This presentation of miniature sardines, hairy crab, quail eggs, and gold flakes was pretty unique, even if you are not a fan of some of these ingredients, when mixed together it was spectacular.

Shin-Ika (Cuttlefish)

Suzuki (Japanese Seabass)

Sliced Giant Pacific Octopus with micro greens in a sake based citrus tea.

Hamachi (Japanese Amberjack)

A cut of Bluefin Akami Tuna and a cut of Chutoro Medium Fatty Tuna.

To end our evening, Chef Cobb put together a fabulous dessert made with shaved ice, coconut ginger and turmeric yogurt with fresh dragon fruit and mint.

We were really impressed with Zoetic Sushi and Chef Cobb, everything was fresh, fragrant and a real delight to the palate, and of course we were thoroughly entertained. The setting inside of of the ZL Homes building also makes this Omakase experience feel very unique.

If you would like to book a seat, and yes you must book ahead, your options are the following:

Thursday: 9 Course Nigiri Sushi Chefs Choice Tasting with either a 6:00 pm tasting or 9:00 pm.

Omakase with an American Kitchen Twist..

View Website Here

As a chef who’s traveled the world and experimented with an array of unique cooking styles and exotic ingredients,Chef Venoy Rogers has a passion to incorporate new methods at American Kitchen that allow guests and locals to experience something new when visiting Orlando.

Now Chef Venoy is offering Omakase style tastings which Chef Venoy dubbed “Amerikase”(both for American Kitchen and American cuisine.)

o·ma·ka·se

/ˌōməˈkäsā,ōˈmäkəsā/ (in a Japanese restaurant) a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef... a Japanese phrase that means "I'll leave it up to you"

“One of the key differences of Amerikase from traditional Omakase is that instead of one bite courses (usually sushi,) we take an American approach and make it our own by doing 2-3 bite courses depending on the budget,” explains Chef Venoy.

“This is perfect for us because we are not technically a tasting or fine dining restaurant, but we have the culinary chops to produce some outstanding dinners in this format and its attracting locals. Being that it is Omakase style, I am able to use dishes from my menu and other ingredients that I may already have in the kitchen to allow for maximum profitability and all while promoting American Kitchen.”

Currently, American Kitchen is offering 6-8 courses at $100 per person, by word of mouth.

Below is an example of some recent Amerikase menu offerings.

Mexican Corn” with Butter poached Spiny Lobster, Brown Mole and Crispy Chicken Skin.

Koji Cured Local Wild Boar Belly Tortellini and Ramp Pasta, Umami Broth, Fairy Ring Mushrooms.

Dry Aged Certified Angus Beef ® Ribeye with Umami Hollandaise, Fermented Parsnip and Grilled Chanterelles.

New England Razor Clam “Chowder”.

Kampachi Crudo, Coconut Curry, Toasted Sesame, Shio Koji, Whiskey Barrel Aged Fish Sauce, Petite Lucky Shamrock Elder Flower.

Cured Tuna and Yuzu Compressed Watermelon Avocado mousse, Green Apple, Pickled micro daikon, furikake, House-made Kiwi Vinegar, Honeysuckle.

If you are interested in this style of dining, whether a date night, group event, or business meeting, Chef suggests reaching out directly to the restaurant’s General Manager at (407) 827-3080 and she will work closely with Chef Venoy to customize a menu that focuses on what’s in season but also cater to your palette.
