The multiple award-winning podcast and radio show “A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan” presents the 2019 Bad at Business Beerfest on Saturday, Nov. 23rd.

The Bad at Business Beerfest gets its name from the fact that it is 100 percent FREE to all who would like to taste, as long as you are of legal drinking age. This event is to celebrate beer and the people that enjoy it.

Tasting begins at Sanford’s West End Trading Company at 2 p.m. and encompasses the historic Sanford “L-walk” ultimately ending at Celery City Craft. More than 40 local, national, and independent breweries will be on hand with samples of the world’s most unique and delicious craft beers.


Food trucks and other vendors will also be on-site with unique goods and services. The event runs Nov. 23rd from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. with beer tasting between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Tom and Dan will introduce, and host live music, along with other entertainment throughout the duration of the event.

Those who wish to enjoy the beer samples must be 21 and over, and the free tastings are limited to the first 2,500 people or until supplies last!

First Watch, the nation’s leading breakfast, brunch and lunch concept, has introduced its new holiday menu. In addition to three innovative seasonal entrees, the restaurant company launched a seasonal fresh juice option and debuted a surprising new shareable dish: Holey Donuts.

First Watch’s foray into shareables began with its introduction of its sweet and spicy Million Dollar Bacon, which it debuted as a seasonal item in 2017 and due to its wild popularity has since become a core menu item. The restaurant concept has experimented with seasonal shareable options since the initial success of Million Dollar Bacon.

“The concept of shareables really ties into what First Watch is all about – community. Our customers are largely friends, family members, couples and co-workers who choose to spend a meal together at First Watch, and we’re so appreciative,” said Shane Schaibly, vice president of culinary strategy for First Watch.

“We noticed our customers ordering extras like a specialty pancake or a bowl of fresh fruit to share among the table, and we recognized the untapped opportunity there. We decided to use that behavior as a chance to offer them new, seasonal options for sampling and sharing. It’s a great way to round out the First Watch experience and encourage our customers to try something new together.”


First Watch’s holiday menu is available through January 5th and includes the following dishes:

Shareable: Holey Donuts – Cinnamon sugar-dusted cake donut holes with chocolate sauce, mixed berry compote and vanilla crème anglaise for dipping.

Carnitas Breakfast Burrito – Pork carnitas, scrambled cage-free eggs, fresh seasoned potatoes, black beans, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, and fresh avocado. Wrapped in a grilled whole wheat tortilla, covered with tomatillo hollandaise and topped with lime crema, pico de gallo, house-pickled onions, fresh cilantro and Cotija cheese.

Steak & Eggs Hash – Seared flank steak, fresh seasoned potatoes, house-roasted mushrooms and onions, Mozzarella and fresh baby spinach. Topped with two cage-free eggs any style, Parmesan cream and fresh herbs. Served with Parmesan-crusted ciabatta.

Cinnamon Chip Pancake Breakfast – Two cage-free eggs any style with a cinnamon chip pancake and your choice of bacon, all-natural chicken, pork or turkey sausage.

And from the Juice Bar, you can now get Iced Chai Cider made with Fuji apple, D’Anjou pear, chai tea and cinnamon.

Hook & Reel is the newest tenant in what was once a Logan's Roadhouse on West Colonial Drive. The full name is Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood and Bar, and that's exactly what you will find once inside. 

The Orlando location was the second in Florida, and two more are coming soon to south and south west Florida.

The story of how the first Hook & Reel Restaurant was opened in Lanham, Maryland in 2013, by founder Miller goes as follows... Miller fancied himself as a gastronome and “foodie” extensively, exploring the food culture of many regions of this and other countries. One of his food explorations in 2008, centered around the vibrantly, flavorful and spicy cuisine of Louisiana.

He so enjoyed the Southern flavor profile, and spin on French Seafood, that he found himself often cooking many of the specialties he first had in New Orleans, for his friends and family.

Miller decided that he would open his first restaurant so everyone could come and enjoy the “Cajun Experience” that his friends and family enjoyed so much. His pledge to all is that each Hook & Reel will only use the finest and freshest seafood, coupled with fresh garlic, lemon pepper, herbs and spices, and chili powder.

All ingredients combine for a one of a kind aroma and finger licking experience that makes people want to come back over and over again. 

Complimentary Shrimp and Hook & Reel Seasoned homemade potato chips come with every meal, and as bizarre as it sounds, were quite tasty.

Hush Puppies may seem like a simple thing, but the ones served up here were almost perfection, with perfect texture and bite, and a side of drawn butter for dipping.

We really enjoyed the Steamed Oysters topped with heaping portions of fresh crushed garlic and butter.

The Calamari served up at Hook & Reel was outstanding. Super light, but yet Crispy batter and the Calamari itself was some of the most tender I've had.

A Reel Mule and a Cajun Wow Cocktail...an old fashioned with bourbon, amaretto, lemon juice and Bitters.

The Fried Flounder was amazing, the batter here is very light, but crispy with great flavor. The fries were also really good.

While all of the food at Hook & Reel is really good, this is their specialty.. The Seafood Boil Bags. They come to your table in a big puffed up bag full of steam and whatever ingredients, sauce or flavor that you choose, then it is all shaken up and served. You can eat it out of the bag, or just pour it on the table. Keeping it in the bag is best, because you retain all the juices. You can do combos, with a variety of seafood, sausage, potatoes, corn, etc, and a variety of sauces and heat levels. We chose a combo of snow crab legs, shrimp, potatoes and corn with the Hook & Reel special blend sauce, and it was fantastic.

The Bar.

Hook & Reel is a rapidly growing casual family dining restaurant chain, with new locations opening at a brisk pace, we really enjoyed our visit and will return soon.

They have a wide variety of different choices. You can select your choices of meat, seafood, vegetables and what you’ll get is a culinary creation that will make you feel like you’re down in New Orleans, and the service is exceptional here too.

Orlando's award-winning sushi truck, Sushi & Seoul on the Roll has come to an agreement with Sanford's premier craft beer bar, Celery City Craft to manage the kitchen and bring their sushi and Asian-inspired menu to Historic Downtown Sanford.

This new venture will be led by childhood friends and culinary phenoms Chef Al Ruiz and Chef Emilio Molina - both come with extensive experience in the industry and plan to unveil the next evolution of their concept stepping off their truck and into their first brick and mortar.

Their first appearance will be on Friday, October 18th from 4-10pm and again on Saturday, October 19th from 4-10pm during the extremely popular Sanford Battle of the Food Trucks where thousands are expected to show up for what has become Central Florida's premier food truck festival, their window will open one hour earlier than the event at 4pm.

Junior Colombian Burger started humbly but with a grand plan: to create the finest burger this world has ever tasted, end of the story. 

And with nothing but a food cart and a dream, they have grown and exploded to the point where you’re reading this right now and probably salivating.

The secret? There is not just one, admittedly. Having the best ingredients is a big part. An unrelenting love for burgers is the other big part. Between those two, their burger bases are pretty much covered.

They make delicious, one-of-a-kind burger creations, like the Tostone Burger, Arepa Burger, a Burger Dog topped with Serrano Ham. The menu also offers Shish kabobs, Hot Dogs, Chicken Burgers, Empanadas, Chorizo and Churros.


From simple burgers to impressive burgers on an Arepa, or sandwiched between two tostones, the burgers here are legit and so are all the side options and the sauce bar.

The Chicken Empanadas were amazing, lightly fried, lots of filling and the garlic side sauce with fresh lime made these fantastic. Six come per order, so they are great for sharing.

The regular Cheeseburger was fantastic as well, a simple burger cooked very well, with crushed potato chips, tomato, lettuce and onion, with a good drizzling of garlic sauce, and the fries were excellent also.


The Arepa Burger was magnificent, and after the first bite I attempted, I soon found out this was a burger that had to be eaten with a fork and knife, there was no way of eating this like a normal burger. The arepas were crisp, the burger was cooked well, and it was topped with lettuce, tomato, lots of cheese and garlic sauce.

Inside of Junior Colombian Burger. This is pretty much a fast casual deal here, where you place your order at the counter, and they bring your food to your table.

Junior Colombian Burger has four locations, Kirkman Road, S. OBT, Lee Vista and a UCF location. Hours do vary by location, but the S. OBT location I visited is open from 11:00 am to 1:00 am Monday to Thursday as well as Sunday, Friday and Saturday, they are open until 4:00 am.

A taste of favorite dishes from around the world is coming to ICON Park. Newcomer, Ox Grill, is getting ready to introduce diners to new flavors and cuisines when it opens this fall.

When Ox Grill opens, its menu will feature food with links to countries from around the world, as well as a gourmet salad bar. 

The 7,800 square foot restaurant will also feature an event venue that can seat up to 200 people for corporate meetings and special occasions.

It will be a unique addition to ICON Park’s entertainment district, which features 20 acres of shops, restaurants and attractions.

“Ox Grill brings a whole new dimension to dining at ICON Park,” said Chris Jaskiewicz, President and CEO of ICON Park. “Guests will get to enjoy global cuisine with a view of our record-breaking attractions.”

The restaurant is an innovative collaboration between local entrepreneurs, Josefina Muñiz, and veteran Orlando restaurateur and sommelier, Joseph Thomas. The two worked to create specialty dishes from around the world. There is mofongo inspired by Puerto Rico, vatapa created from Brazilian recipes and a taste of France in the chicken jambonette.

After much anticipation, Central Florida’s popular, full-service craft brewery and brew pub “Orange County Brewers” announces their grand opening in Lake Mary this Saturday, October 5th.

The 3,600 square foot location in Park Lane Plaza is the first brewery in Lake Mary. It features OCB’s signature brightly colored, industrial taproom design with heavy wood accents, an open floor plan, a large outdoor seating area, ample parking and a full kitchen serving delicious burgers, sandwiches and salads.


OCB Lake Mary will carry a variety of 12 to 16 different style of beers on tap, including IPAs, Lager, Pilsner, Amber, Weizenbach, Schwarzebier, NEIPA and Blonde Ale, plus host occasional live music.

The general public is invited to the all-day grand opening celebration of Orange County Brewers this Saturday, October 5 from Noon to 8pm. The brewery will release their New England IPA, Pilsner and special Oktoberfest.

College Park Main Street will host the 18th annual College Park JazzFest on Saturday November 9th, 2019 from 5-11pm.

The community’s flagship street festival along Edgewater Drive will feature 12 bands on three stages performing jazz, rock, R&B and more.


College Park JazzFest will feature a vibrant street party atmosphere with diverse food trucks, vendors, and the local shops and restaurants open on Edgewater Drive between Smith Street and Clayton Street.

Jazz Fest is a unique annual tradition in College Park – many longtime attendees will go so far as to bring entire living room sets out to the main festival area on Edgewater Drive from their homes. 

Visitors can expect three stages playing mainstream pop, jazz, and soft rock along a larger event footprint than ever before. We recently went to Eddie V’s for Magical Dining, and of course it was excellent. It was a great way to taste, sip and savor menu classics at a discounted price.

I was actually impressed by Eddie V’s charismatic vibe that draws you in and holds you close, invites you to be seen, or sit back and just savor. This is definitely a top notch establishment for the Darden Restaurant brand.

They serve up some of the finest seafood and steaks with world class wine and service, along with live jazz in the V lounge. Fish arrive daily from pristine waters around the world including Swordfish from Block Island, Scallops from George Banks, and YellowFin Tuna from the Caribbean. USDA Prime steaks are hand cut and specially aged for more than 28 days to ensure peak flavor.

From making fresh tortillas by hand daily for lobster tacos to including a full half-pound of Jumbo Lump crab meat in their crab cakes, Eddie V’s strives to go above and beyond in every step of preparation, and they did not disappoint on our visit.


I started with the Crab and Corn Chowder that featured generous portions of Lump Crab, Smoked Bacon and Sweet Corn that all blended well together.

Our other starter was the Organic Greens Salad with baby heirloom tomatoes, julienne carrots and apple-cider vinaigrette.

We absolutely had to grab a side of the Truffled Mac and Cheese here as well, and it did not disappoint, some of the better truffle mac and cheese dishes that I have had.

Always sucker for great Sea Bass, hands down, the one served up at Eddie V’s is all time top 3 that we have ever had. Our server told us that it is a big hit and one of the most popular menu items. The Chilean Sea Bass is steamed Hong Kong Style served in a light soy broth that just dissolves in your mouth.

The 22oz USDA Prime Bone In Ribeye was a $20.00 upgrade over the regular Magical Dining Menu, but it was money well spent. This steak was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. This was served with white truffle mashed potatoes also, and they were equally good.

Butterscotch Panna Cotta was a great dessert to finish the evening with salted caramel, walnuts, pralines and biscotti. We also had the Fresh Fruit Sorbet with a homemade cookie.

A most impressive Wine Collection.

Eddie V’s can be found across the country. While each location is unique in its setting, artwork and décor, they all share an unmistakable elegance. Seafood and great Steaks are what they are known for, but the real specialty here is excellence.

Grande Lakes Orlando to host the third annual Homestead Harvest

In an ongoing quest to promote sustainable farming and food production systems in the Florida region, Grande Lakes Orlando will host the third annual Homestead Harvest event at its own Whisper Creek Farm on Friday, October 25th from 6 to 9 p.m.

The evening will benefit Free Mulch Incorporated by Frog Song Organics, a sustainable agriculture program.

Participants are invited along on a very special journey as they wander through Whisper Creek Farm and come upon food stations from some of the region’s most celebrated chefs — each tasting perfectly paired with beer, cocktails, and wine by participating beverage suppliers including Tito's Vodka, Breakthru Beverage and Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits. The event will also have a complementary sound track of live music.


Beginning at 6 p.m., Homestead Harvest at Whisper Creek Farm will feature a line-up of Florida’s most talented chefs including Elek Kovacs, The Osprey Tavern; Brandon McGlamery, Luke’s Kitchen & Bar; Kevin Fonzo, The Kevin Fonzo Foundation; Yann Chupin, The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota; Eric Martinez, Orlando World Center Marriott; John Janucik, Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center; Franck Riffaud, The Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Bonnet Creek and Stephane Cheramy, The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes.

Due to the disruption from the Hurricane, Visit Orlando has extended it's month long food celebration an extra week to October 7th, so now we have more time to hit up some  great spots to eat at great prices.

One such spot is Reunion Resort. Both restaurants on the property, Eleven and Forte are participating in Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month that started August 23rd and is now going on through October 7th with Prix fixe menus available in both for $35.

The offerings at Eleven are a Filet Mignon Egg Roll, Iceberg Wedge Salad or an incredible Lobster Bisque for appetizer. Entree selections include NY Strip with mashed potatoes, Airline Chicken and Pan Seared Grouper. Dessert is your choice of Vanilla Flan, or Chocolate Cake.

At Forte, the appetizers start with Crispy Calamari, Roasted Italian Sausage or Endive Salad. Entree Choices consist of a Delmonico Cast Iron with gnocchi bolognese, Red Snapper Pappardelle and Shrimp Scampi, or Airline Chicken Saltimbocca. For dessert you have a choice of Tiramisu or a Trio of Miniature Gelato Cones.

I recently had the opportunity to sample a few dishes from both restaurants at the resort, along with the wine pairing. Not only was it delicious and well prepared, but when you think of the food you are going to get here for $35.00, it’s kind of a steal, especially at such a nice resort as Reunion Resort is.

Endive Salad is at Forte with blue cheese, candied walnuts, and mustard dressing, you can pair this with Una, Gruner Veltliner, 2017 from Austria.

The Lobster Bisque was amazing with butter poached lobster, green onion crème fraîche, and you can enjoy this even more with O:TU Merlot Rosé, Awatere Valley, New Zealand served at Eleven for an appetizer.

Airline Chicken Saltimbocca will be a main course option at Forte with a Marsala Sauce and you can pair this with Ceres Composition, Pinot Noir from Central Otago, New Zealand.

Prime NY Strip with mashed potatoes, asparagus and peppercorn sauce is available at Eleven with a wonderful peppercorn cream sauce, pair this with a Katherine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, California 2016.

Pan Seared Grouper is also available at Eleven with roasted tomato grits, broccoli slaw, and a citrus cream sauce. This pairs perfectly with Groth, Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley.

Red Snapper Pappardelle and Shrimp Scampi will be offered at Forte with pappardelle pasta in a white wine butter sauce, and is excellently paired with Pazo de Senorans, Alberino, Spain 2016.

Tiramisu is available at Forte, and Vanilla Flan pictured on the right is available as a desseert option at Eleven for Magical Dining Month.
