American Social is Coming to Orlando

7335 W Sand Lake Rd
Ste 101
Orlando, FL 32819

American Social Bar & Kitchen (AmSo), the upscale sports lounge and restaurant that originated in South Florida has announced the debut of a fourth location in Orlando, Florida.

The 9,406 square-foot space, formerly known as Bar Louie, is part of the Rialto plaza located on Orlando’s famed “Restaurant Row.” Positioned in the prestigious Dr. Phillips area just minutes from the bustling I-Drive and Orange County Convention Center, the space will undergo an extensive, $2.7M beautification and build-out with help of United General Contracting, led by John Mijares.

The new space will debut as the fourth pillar to the successful restaurant series that pays tribute to classic Americana style. The original “AmSo” (as loyal patrons refer) located on Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale will celebrate its sixth anniversary this June, and the new flagship location in Downtown Tampa will commemorate its first year this October closely followed by the fourth anniversary of the Downtown Brickell location in Miami.

American Social Orlando will keep with its good time, entertainment-for-all reputation with more than 300 indoor and outdoor seats, a sweeping patio, four bars and one VIP bar for private parties. Helmed by restaurateurs Rick Mijares and Paul Greenberg, American Social is known for its extensive selection of local and national craft beers, lively happy hours and award-winning menu items.

“The addition of our fourth location in Orlando, one of the most visited cities in the world thanks to year round sunny weather, unique attractions and a high quality of life, is truly special for American Social,” said Rick Mijares. “With our ability to offer both full restaurant and bar service and special events in addition to off-site catering, American Social’s culinary versatility and attention to detail will be unmatched in Central Florida.”

Family is at the core of American Social. Rick’s mother, Laurie Mijares spearheads the interior design for all AMSO locations while Rick’s father, Tony Mijares, continues his integral role in the restaurant’s financial, legal and corporate growth since its inception in 2011.

The team’s tireless efforts are not confined within the walls of the three successful locations, but reach far and wide through a new community that rallies around the patriotic concept, which pays tribute to classic Americana.

Rick Mijares and Greenberg anticipate hiring approximately 125 new team members to help execute the restaurant’s brunch, lunch and dinner service on a weekly basis. The new location is conveniently located 15 minutes from Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World and downtown Orlando.

American Social is characterized by its classic American comfort food, a wide selection of craft beers on draft, curated list of cocktails and wines.

The restaurant’s portfolio of prestigious awards includes 2014, 2015 and 2016 South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s “Best Bite on the Beach,” Zagat award-winning Chicken and Waffles dish, and winner of the OBIES: A Taste of South Florida’s “People’s Choice Award.”

The restaurant has three locations including 721 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 690 S.W. First Court in Miami, FL; 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd. in Tampa, FL; and a fourth coming soon to 7335 West Sand Lake Road in Orlando, FL.

Master Sommelier George Miliotes has brought his renowned wine expertise to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort with his new venture, Wine Bar George, that opened on May 19th.

Miliotes is no stranger to Walt Disney World Resort – he was part of the opening team of the California Grill restaurant at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and managed the venue from 1995 to 2002. While there, he created an award-winning wine list and one of the first “100 wines by the glass” lists in the country.

“Disney Springs is the perfect place to open a wine bar and share my passion with the world,” Miliotes said. “Having the opportunity to train and hire my own team while sharing my 40-plus years of knowledge is truly incredible, and I look forward to opening our doors soon.”

As one of only 249 worldwide industry professionals certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Miliotes will feature wines from acclaimed and well-known wineries as well as growing regions and wineries that are up-and-coming. The location will offer an unparalleled wine list including more than 130 selections by the ounce, glass and bottle.

“The wine list will feature more than 130 wines all served by the ounce, glass or bottle,” Miliotes said. “The list will include more than 40 varietals from regions around the world. We will use the Coravin, the Vinfinity system and wine on tap to ensure each wine is enjoyed to its fullest extent.

Servers will adeptly pair a range of small plates, cheese and charcuterie, shareable entrees and dessert with each wine. If you are looking for an awesome $9 glass on tap or a few ounces of Château Margaux, we will have wines for you to enjoy.”

Guests will have the opportunity to explore endless food and wine pairings at Wine Bar George. Executive Chef Ron Rupert and Miliotes have worked closely to create a menu that will pair with the extensive wine list.

“Offerings will feature seasonally relevant items, and everything will be made in-house,” Rupert said. “I’ve worked jointly with George to develop a menu that represents both global and local cuisine.Guests will enjoy food that is familiar, yet new all at once.”

With a team hand-selected by Miliotes, guests can expect their experience to include wine education, which will be served up in an approachable and fun manner. Joining Miliotes as General Manager is George Vavalides who brings more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry including nearly 20 years with P.F. Chang’s.

Jamie Irizarry will be part of Miliotes’ team as Restaurant Manager. Irizarry has more than 15 years in the industry working with restaurants such as Seasons 52, Eddie V’s and The Capital Grille.

Robyn Cohen will join as Director of Beverage with 15 years of bartending experience including, most recently, at Flying Fish on Disney’s BoardWalk. Cohen and Miliotes worked jointly to develop the featured cocktails at Wine Bar George, all of which will include a grape-based spirit. In addition to the extensive wine list, the wine bar will offer a variety of cocktails, a selection of beer and cider and frosé.

The 200-seat wine bar will join a growing and remarkable group of dining, shopping and entertainment offerings at Disney Springs. The design for the 6,000-square-foot space will be similar to a winemaker’s home estate with a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. The space includes seating for groups of all sizes, areas for private events and sweeping views of Disney Springs.

Devine Wine & Grill was originally started in 2015 by two UCF grads Mike DiAlexander and Kale Bernath. They envisioned an American tapas style eatery in Oviedo with a selection of fine wines and craft cocktails with a menu put together by Chef Michael Sorensen.

Fast forward to 2017 and the establishment had a grand re-opening with new owners Shawna and Nate Simms. Not long after the ownership change, a chef change was also put into the mix with Chef Stephen Montalvo.

At DeVine Wine & Grill, they take pride in making everything from scratch, and try to hand make as much as possible. From desserts to charcuterie the “foodie philosophy” starts with using the freshest seasonal ingredients from local farms, while presenting them in unique and interesting ways that offers something everyone can enjoy.

Chef Stephen has put together quite a menu that is perfect for the tapas style food to be shared and enjoyed with wine. They have a great selection of small and shareable plates like crab cakes, octopus, flatbreads, Ahi Tuna and fondue. If you require something more, they have that as well, with pan roasted chicken, bronzino, salmon, filet medallions and even a roasted duck

Of course the Wine portion here is highlighted by the interactive Enomatic Wine Machines. The extensive and unique wine selection here is available by the glass, the bottle, and through the cutting edge Enomatic wine dispensing machines. DeVine Wine & Grill’s goal is to serve rare but approachable wine from all regions of the world.

The establishment also features a full liquor bar, craft beers, specialty cocktails, and a unique and extensive wine portfolio. With a contemporary menu design, polished restaurant, and a team of hospitality experts, they are looking to raise the dining experience in Oviedo.

The Enomatic Wine Machines are the first thing to catch your eye upon entry to Devine Wine & Grill. They have a large variety of wines available to sample from the machine, and by the glass or bottle as well.

If wine is not your thing, they serve up some fine cocktails and craft brews here as well. The Gardener's Gimlet on the left features Rosemary infused gin, Pomegranate Simple Syrup, Tonic, Lemonade and fresh squeezed lime. A classic Old Fashioned is on the right.

The Grilled Octopus is served in pool of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and features fennel, onion, capers and micro dill. The flavor and texture of this Octopus was pretty amazing, I’d say it’s in my top 5.

We Really enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes also with a Panko breading, greens and a datil mayo sauce over the top.

This was quite simply amazing, and one of the better Steak Frites I've had in quite some time with hand cut Truffle Parmesan fries, a perfectly grilled and tender filet with a side of balsamic ketchup.

The Truffle Mac and Cheese at DeVine is pretty amazing as well. This is a large portion, that is great to share and is listed on the menu under accompaniment section. This is not to be missed when you visit here.

I’m a sucker for good Bronzino, and it is not readily available in Central Florida for some odd reason, but the Bronzino with truffle white bean puree, escolar salad, and lemon garlic aioli was quite phenomenal at Devine Wine & Grill.

At DeVine they are always striving to create a memorable experience for every guest and they aim to excite your taste buds as well as educate your palate and mind. Chef Stephen has put together a fine menu of eclectic and seasonal foods that are designed to be shared and create a modern spin on the traditional upscale dining experience all year-round.

They serve brunch on Sunday with bottomless Mimosas, Sangria and Bloody Mary’s with a changing menu of made from scratch specialty breakfast items. Happy hour is daily, Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with $3 glasses of house wine, $3 sangria, $3 well liquors, $1 off draft beer.

Devine Wine & Grill is open from Tuesday to Thursday from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Friday and Saturday they are open from 3:00 pm to 11 pm, and Sunday Brunch is served from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Taco Maker Mexican Grill

And… we have yet another entrant into the Taco Craze currently erupting in Central Florida. More tacos, more Tex-Mex the more the merrier as some would say, maybe others are tired of it, but either way, Tacos are here to stay.... for now.

With more than 100 franchise restaurants in Puerto Rico, the Taco Maker brand has expanded into the U.S. with their concept of made to order Mexican with the introduction of Taco Maker Mexican Grill in 2014. With more than 70 franchises now sold, the team at Frans Global – who acquired the Taco Maker brand in 2006 has made its way to Orlando.

Whether it’s tacos, burritos, fajitas or dessert, the food is served fresh and with passion. The menus are full of savory and customizable Mexican food options to fit any taste and any diet. Taco Maker features beef and chicken fajitas and fresh made on site guacamole, tortillas and chips as well as fresh made sauces with over 20 fresh ingredients to choose from.

Inside is pretty open and spacious. Guests walk up, place their order and customize it as they go through the line and seat themselves, Fast-Casual at its core.

Guests have a variety of toppings and options to fully customize their orders as they go through the line.

Mexican Grill Bowl with seasoned ground beef and Mexican rice and a Jarritos Lime soda.

A Quesadilla Platter.

This is a taco salad that is fully customizable and served in a house made deep fried tortilla. This was filled with Chicken Criollo. Proteins available here are Ground Beef, Chicken Criollo, Steak Fajita, Chicken Fajita or Pork Carnitas.

A Taco Trio Platter with Chicken, Carnitas and Ground Beef with black beans, chips and Mexican rice.

The Grande Platter I ordered came with a taco and a burrito, so I got the burrito stuffed with carnitas, and went with the ground beef for the taco. The carnitas were very flavorful and really good for a fast casual place, but they do make it everyday in house.

The Apple or Cherry Pies are deep fried tortillas with apple or cherry filling and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon...what’s not to like?

Of course the Nutella Cheesecake Pie is pretty much a game changer. This is a deep fried flour tortilla with cheesecake and Nutella filling and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. They also serve Rellenitas XL, which is basically a quesadilla filled with nutella and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

Overall, we really enjoyed Taco Maker. The prices are very affordable, a combo is about $9.00 here, and that includes a drink. For the freshness of the food and ease of ordering, I personally don't mind another taco spot in Orlando, as long as it’s decent food and they are not trying to hop on another food trend like some local establishments.

They have another location in Central Florida as well, at 9924 Universal Blvd.

Pizza Bruno

Orlando, FL 32806

By now, just about everybody in Central Florida who loves Pizza and just loves good food in general, has heard about or has been to Pizza Bruno.

If you have not been yet, or are in the minority of people who don't know about one of Orlando’s best pizza places, then this article is for you.

Pizza Bruno was opened as a Neapolitan style pizzeria that is a hidden gem off the beaten path where tradition meets creativity. Pizza Bruno isn't just a pizza place, it's a passion with Italian roots and family traditions from Chef/Owner, Bruno Zacchini who developed a passion and philosophy for great food.

Although Pizza Bruno is wildly popular, it has for the most part, remained relatively underground in the Orlando area, but that is part of the craze and lure of such an establishment. Often times places like this become the stuff of legends and folklore, and when you finally get to try it, you are let down. That is not the case here. Chef Bruno and his team are doing their best to keep the food and experience magical.

The Neapolitan style pizzas are made with a simple dough, fermented at cold temperatures for up to 48 hours, topped with the best ingredients and cooked in 90 seconds at temperatures of up to 1000 degrees. The base dough and sauce are both vegan, and they also offer Daiya Vegan mozzarella as well as a gluten free crust for a $2.00 up charge.

Just as Italian food has always emphasized a simplicity in flavors and ingredient driven dishes, Pizza Bruno treats their pizzas the same. From the delicious California tomatoes & sea salt they use in the sauce to the locally sourced Italian sausage they use, they pride themselves on letting the ingredients shine and the food speak for itself.

The Pies here are baked in a wood fired oven that is fed with kiln dried red oak that helps the food take on a beautiful leopard spotted char and get that unique wood fired flavor. They do serve more than pizza at Pizza Bruno, and the garlic knots have become legendary...if you can get them, as they are made in limited batches. Other items include, Octopus, Wood Fired Cauliflower, Charcuterie and Cheese boards, Meatballs and salads.

Beer, Wine, and Amaro cocktails are served up at Pizza Bruno. They have a $20 corkage fee per 750ml of wine or beer. This is my favorite local craft brewery Crooked Can with Cloud Chaser.

The Heirloom Caprese with local heirloom tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella, basil and balsamic glaze is a great way to start your visit, and it’s big enough to share.

Wood Fired Cauliflower is served in a hazelnut romesco sauce and topped with golden raisin agrodolce and Pecorino Romano, and it is simply amazing.

Quite simply one of the best Octopus dishes I have ever had. The octopus at Pizza Bruno is wine braised, wood-fire roasted and served with a seasonal vegetable accompaniment.

This Blanca Pizza with Mozzarella, Lemon Ricotta, Garlic, Rosemary, Arugula, and Pecorino Romano is just fantastic and full of great flavors.

The Ninety Two Pizza is pretty damn spectacular as well with Red Onion, Oregano, Chili Flakes, Olives, Peppers, Mushrooms, Italian Sausage, Pecorino and Mozzarella.

Do not miss out on any of the Cannoli’s served up at Pizza Bruno, they are all next level delicious. This is a Nutella Cannoli with nutella, chocolate chips and sliced almonds.

This is a Classic Cannoli with a classic Cannoli filling, chocolate chips and powdered sugar.

I saved the best for last, with this Caramel Delight Cannoli that is out of this world wonderfully delicious with coconut mascarpone, chocolate covered cannoli shell, toasted coconut and caramel sauce..,it’s pretty much a cannoli from heaven above.

Chef Bruno and his staff strives to push creativity & raise the bar for the food they serve up here, to bring Orlando something different & unique and keep up a cult like following. This place is just plain good and you will not regret anything on the menu.

Pizza Bruno does not have a phone line, so they do not deliver, nor can you call ahead and place a take out order. They do however, allow for you to order to go with in house takeout, online ordering, and they will deliver via Uber Eats only.

And yes, I went later in the evening on a Saturday night, and they were out of the legendary garlic knots...It happens, so I'll Be Back...Soon!
