Hawkers Asian Street Fare has been doing a pretty good job of bringing the flavor and excitement of Asian Hawker cuisine to Orlando.

Hawker cuisine, in case you are wondering, is the mixed cuisine of the multicultural societies of Malaysia and Singapore that includes a variety of offerings from Malay food to Thai, Indian, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese food.

In Malaysia, food is often sold at roadside stalls found on almost every street, and is known as "hawker food". In Singapore, food is located in a hawker center and is set up more like a modern day food court with the food being sold inside, or at an open air complex as opposed to a road side stall.

Because hawker food is available just about anywhere in Malaysia and Singapore, and its very affordable,  it has become a very popular cuisine in south east Asia, but its popularity has been on a steady rise all across the globe.

Since 2011, Hawkers has been serving up delectable food at very affordable prices right here in Orlando. Most of the dishes they offer are in small plate fashion, but they also have larger portions of stir fry. Everything is made to share and does not come out in a systematic order, which kind of adds to the fun of eating there.

The Roti Canai is some of the best I have had, and is highly addictive.  This is a Malaysian flat bread served with a side of some pretty awesome spicy curry dipping sauce.

We ordered the Potstickers steamed. These Chinese chicken dumplings are handmade and were delicious.

The Grilled Wings with Honey Sriracha sauce was a spectacular flavor combination of hot and sweet.

You can order them as a five piece plate, or a ten piece.

From the Stir-Fry menu, we ordered the Beef Haw FunThis is a mixture of Chinese stir-fried wide rice noodles, sliced steak, scallions, onions and bean sprouts tossed in soy sauce that was quite tasty.

Another dish we had from the Stir-Fry menu was the Stir Fry Udon which consists of Stir-fried udon noodles with chicken, eggs, onions, scallions, carrots and bean sprouts.

This was a great combination of  flavors and textures with a touch of heat.

The inside has a very modern feel, but remains sparse and subtly decorated. All tables are laminated with old Asian newspapers.

Parking can be a little scarce, but Hawkers is certainly worth a visit. We really enjoyed all of the food we ate there, and we have not even sampled a quarter of the menu yet.

That's what makes it fun. You can go and sample five, six, seven dishes, and then go another time and sample all new ones without breaking the bank.

Singaporean literature declares eating as a national pastime and food, a national obsession. I can tell you that I am officially obsessed with Hawkers Roti Canai, and will definitely be returning soon.

Chuy's International Drive

Orlando FL. 32819

In case you missed it…Chuy's newest location in Orlando is now open.

They say if you have seen one Chuy's, you have seen one Chuy's. The I-Drive location is a little more spiffier than the Kissimmee location, but the overall layout is very similar, yet different. As you may recall I did a review for the first Chuy's back in 2013, which you can find here for a more informative idea of what to expect:

I got a chance to get a sneak peek preview on a training night, and overall it went really well. The food was just as good as I had at the Kissimmee location and came out in a timely manner. Bar service was slow, but that's to be expected as they work out the kinks.

The area around the new location is quickly being built up with new restaurants and businesses and may be vying for the title of restaurant row #2. The new Chuy's is almost directly on the corner of Sand Lake Road and International Drive, and should do really well.

“We are so excited to bring Chuy’s to International Drive!” said Jack Baum, local owner/operator of Chuy’s Orlando. “There is nothing like us here on I-Drive, and we can’t wait to introduce our made-from-scratch Tex-Mex and funky vibe to both visitors and locals here in town.”

Chuy’s new Orlando location is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with a weekday happy hour from 4-7 p.m.complete with drink specials and the famous Fully-Loaded Nacho Car, offering a trunk load of chips, salsa, chile con queso, taco meat and more. Christner's Prime Steak and Lobster

Christner's Prime Steak & Lobster

Orlando, FL 32810

Christner’s Prime Steak & Lobster has consistently been  one of Orlando’s best steakhouses. Its also one of Orlando's longest standing, having been in business for over twenty years under the former Del Frisco's name.

What makes this fine dining experience even better, is that it is fashioned after a traditional old world Chicago style saloon. The inside of Christner's is all dark wood and brick with plush leather seating and white table cloths.

Over the years, Carole, David and Alice Christner have built a restaurant that continues to provide meticulous service in an atmosphere that is intimate and relaxed.

That meticulous service means a lot to to the team at Christner's as well. Most of the staff has been with them for a long time, as our server had been there for over nine years. That's an important factor in fine dining. Often times even at good restaurants, service can feel hurried or you may feel rushed to eat. You can be sure your meal will be spaced out and you will be given time to enjoy each and every aspect of your meal.

On the other hand, if you are in a hurry and you have a show to catch, your server will be more than willing to accommodate you as well.

All meals are served with complimentary fresh baked bread rolls with a side of real butter.

These are great steakhouse style rolls, that are firm and fluffy, but manage to dissolve like a hot donut in your mouth.

My guest and I split a Dinner Salad. The salad portion is big enough to split and have more than enough for two salads.

The Fried "Shanghai Style" Calamari was top notch. This was a perfectly cooked calamari that uses only the rings of the squid and was some of the most tender calamari I have had.

The Shanghai Sauce it was tossed in added the right mixture of heat and sweet.
I could have gotten full just eating the plate of calamari.

All of Christner's steaks come from corn-fed stock, are prime-aged and are cut fresh to order.

My guest had the Filet Mignon. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and had great flavor in every bite.

I ordered the Prime Strip. This was a succulent melt in your mouth steak that was also cooked to perfection. I enjoyed each and every bite.

We spilt an order of the Chateau Potatoes and and an order of the Broccoli Au Gratin for our sides. All sides are ordered as a la carte, but come in shareable portions.

The Mandarin Orange Cake...
is a three layer moist orange cake which has  frosting that's almost as thick as the cake itself.  It is served with a scoop of ice cream and a side of orange sauce. This is one of the restaurant's most popular deserts.

This slice is equivalent to about 2 regular slices of cake. So, you can imagine that with the bread, calamari, steaks, sides and cake….we had plenty left to take home.

Great Steaks deserve great wine, and Christner's has a wine portfolio of more than 5,500 wines. If that's not enough for you, you can lease your own wine locker and bring your own wine and spirits for safe keeping in a temperature controlled environment.

Put simply…Christner's is a Great Steak House. Steak is what they do. Sure they do a lot of things really well here, but you will be hard pressed to find someone that does it better in Central Florida.

Valentine's Day would be a wonderful time to try out this intimate restaurant. They currently have a special which includes:  a four-course dinner for two, with a bottle of champagne or wine paired with classic cuisine ranging from salads to filet mignon for $200, tax and gratuity included. An upgrade to shrimp and lobster is available for an additional $50. Call for reservations.

Christner's dedication is never ending and they strive for excellence at every turn. It's fancy, but not over the top. You will remember the experience if you dine there, not just for the steak but for the level of service as well!
