By now I am sure most of you Central Floridians have heard about 4 Rivers Smokehouse. But in case you have not heard, or wanted more it is for you!!

Taste Of Orlando's official review of 4 Rivers Smokehouse.

4 Rivers is the BBQ-Pit Brainchild of John Rivers. To make a long story short, John is a former pharmaceutical executive who worked with billion dollar corporations like Johnson & Johnson.

Having spent time in Texas, he developed a passion for BBQ and Brisket. That is where he got the idea to start a small catering business to share his food with others. What initially started out as a charity, turned into a small catering business on the side ran from his house.

But Good BBQ cant be kept a secret. After buying a vacant tire repair shop on 2103 West Fairbanks avenue in Winter Park, to help expand the catering business, the idea came to John.

"What if....what if I open a BBQ restaurant here instead"? After all, his catering business was booming. So he did it...and the lines have not stopped forming at the original location or the two newest ones in Winter Garden and Longwood.

This beautiful slab of Beef Brisket is what has really put 4 Rivers on the map. It is the go to place for Brisket in Central Florida.

John knows a thing or two about rubs, marinades and smoking meats.

He actually has  spreadsheets for every type of meat and different formulations for injections and marinades.

The Angus Beef Brisket is smoked overnight for 18 hours every day. Chicken and ribs come out of the smoker four times a day.

The newest location in  Longwood features a "Sweets Shop" and has a much larger seating area and parking for almost everyone.

The original location in Winter Park will soon be moving across the street and will have a "Sweets Shop" as well and parking for 81 cars.

If you have been to the original one, you will be familiar with the long lines and parking for 13 cars being a major issue. There is no indoor seating either, but this will soon be taken care of.

Inside the sweets shop they serve up Peet's Coffee along with a delectable array of goodies.

Things like S’mores Brownies, Mississippi Mud Cake, Banana Dream Pudding, along with a variety of Ice Cream can be found at the Sweets Shop.

All locations have a variety of offerings, but not as much as the Longwood location.

However, you will find the classic soda selection at any of the three restaurants.

You can get Cheer Wine, Nehi, Sun Drop and a variety of root beers in old fashioned bottles.

Ordering your food is pretty simple and straight forward.

Once you get in line (there will be a line) you can gaze over the menu and pick out what you want.

After you get to the front you tell them what kind of sandwich, or what kind of meat you want.

You then move up to the next station and order your sides.

Some of the sides include:
Baked Beans, Fried Pickles, Baked Cheese Grits, Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, Fried Okra, name a few.

Most combos come with 2 sides. They are all as good as they sound, especially the cheese grits!

Before you get to the front you still have one last chance to grab something sweet to eat. Like a Red Velvet Cupcake or some Banana Dream Pudding.

You then pay your bill and find an available seat. Its all self serve here.

They do have a soda fountain and some pretty good sweet tea, if you prefer not to get a classic soda in the bottle.

My wife decided on the Pulled Chicken Sandwich with fries and fried okra.

She thought it was really good. The chicken used in the sandwich is smoked and then pulled apart.

My uncle went with the Smokehouse Sliders with Baked Beans and Fried Pickles

You are allowed to pick  and mix between:
Pulled Pork, Angus Brisket, Burnt Ends, or Pulled Chicken.

The Brisket was good as usual and so was the pulled pork. However, on this visit the burnt ends were a tad salty.

(Burnt Ends is 1/2 brisket, 1/2 pulled pork that has been cooked longer and smothered in BBQ sauce)

St. Louis Style Ribs are smoked 4 times a day and each batch is covered in 4Rivers homemade BBQ Sauce.

They are available as a half or whole rack, and They are pretty darn tasty!

One of my favorites is The Longhorn.

It is a sandwich that consists of chopped brisket and Texas sausage served on a toasted hoagie roll.

It is then covered with smokehouse relish and topped with onion rings and melted provolone.

I got mine with baked cheese grits and fried pickles....mmmmm  good!

4rivers has a great selection of original sandwiches that sound as good as they taste.

Some signature items include:

The Texas Destroyer --  similar to the Longhorn, but no sausage and add Jalapenos

The Messy Pig is a fan favorite (its really messy too) --  is a heaping pile of pulled pork between 2 layers of coleslaw, pickles & jalapenos and smothered with 4R sauce

Santa Maria Tri-Tip Steak-- smoked aged beef, finished over an open flame and served with smoked tomato chimichurri sauce

The Six Shooter -- Cheese grits topped pulled pork, coleslaw, pickles, jalapenos and 4r sauce

All in all...whether you order a sandwich or a dinner platter you cant go wrong at 4Rivers. Its great food at an affordable price.  Two sandwich combos with 2 sides each and 2 drinks is about $21.00. There is something for everyone.

As the bumper sticker says..." Peace, Love, 4Rivers"
