Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando has unveiled a new weekly themed dinner show, Caribbean Carnaval, featuring an all you can eat buffet and high energy live entertainment for the entire family.

From the moment guests arrive at the festive outdoor pavilion, they are greeted by the sights and sounds of a party in paradise. Accompanied by stilt walkers and acrobatic dancers, the evening’s lively hosts whisk the audience away on a flavorful, musical tour through the Caribbean with plenty of dancing, singing, limbo and even a conga line.

Caribbean Carnaval is one of the latest additions to Universal Orlando Resort’s unprecedented growth. In just seven years, more than 25 new experiences with entire themed areas, powerful attractions, incredible dining opportunities and dramatically themed on site hotels have been added across the destination.

“The addition of Caribbean Carnaval takes our guest experience to a new level,” says Barb Bowden, complex managing director for Loews Sapphire Falls Resort and Loews Royal Pacific Resort. “Our team set out to create an evening filled with food, fun and celebration. Guests can savor an amazing array of Caribbean-inspired food and drink one minute, then be on their feet doing the limbo next.”

The food served here strives to be as authentic as possible with dishes and drinks straight out of the Caribbean. Planter’s Punch, mojo roasted suckling pig, ropa vieja, jerk chicken, grilled snapper, Caribbean rum cake and guava flan are some of the great food selections.

A colorful cast of characters provides exciting live entertainment as they take guests on a musical voyage from Florida through the Bahamas with stops in Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad.

A musical journey through the islands with live music will get you grooving.

This is the Signature Calypso Punch Rum Cocktail that every guest gets upon arrival to the dinner show.

The Mojo Roasted Suckling Pig was quite a sight to behold, and it was very delicious.

You can't go wrong with a little bit of everything from the delicious Caribbean inspired buffet. Ropa Vieja with plantains, grilled snapper, suckling pig with an incredible chimichurri sauce, jerk chicken with sweet potatoes.

The dessert bar did not disappoint! Guava flan, Mexican chocolate fudge cake, coconut & caramel rice pudding & Caribbean Rum cake.

Caribbean Carnaval takes place every Wednesday night in the resort’s outdoor pavilion, Cayman Court. Seating begins at 6 pm and the show starts at 7 pm.

Tickets are $69 for adults and $35 for children ages 3-9. Children under 3 are complementary. Price includes gratuity, non-alcoholic beverages, wine, beer and Planter’s Punch. Tax and ticketing fees apply.

Hard Rock Cafe Orlando

Universal Orlando Resort
6050 Universal Blvd.
Orlando, FL 32819

In a city with so much to see and do, one of the top attraction for locals, as well as tourists, is Hard Rock Cafe Orlando.

Located at Universal Studios Orlando in the CityWalk entertainment complex, Hard Rock Cafe Orlando is the biggest HRC in the world. With large, statuesque pillars, it stands majestically as a Roman Coliseum of rock, and boasts more pieces of music memorabilia than any other location. The site includes not only a vast, multi-level cafe, but also Hard Rock Live Orlando, a 3,000-person concert/party venue.

The menu is full of traditional appetizers and lots of burger’s and sandwiches. If you’re not in the mood for burgers, there are plenty of other menu items to satisfy your cravings. There is a nice selection of steaks, salmon and fresh salads, and a fun dessert menu.

While dining and partying at Hard Rock, you’ll be surrounded by memorabilia of music’s greatest talents. Check out the suit Elvis wore in the film Viva Las Vegas, view hand painted Beatles posters, and look through Buddy Holly’s famous black glasses. You can also admire the Pete Townshend’s, of The Who, 1973 Gibson Les Paul custom guitar.

In addition to the regular menu, there is always something new or seasonal to try out as well, like this Air Mexico Margarita sampler.

The Jumbo Combo is one of the most popular apps at Hard Rock, and can really be a snack type of meal for a few people. This is a collection of Signature Wings, Onion Rings, Tupelo Chicken Tenders, Southwest Spring Rolls and Parmesan flatbread with bruschetta served with honey mustard, hickory barbecue and blue cheese dressing. Very tasty.

The Texan is hickory smoked pulled pork or chicken with chipotle barbecue sauce, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, crispy fried jalapenos and onions, piled high on toasted brioche. This sandwich was pretty good. It was huge, messy and fun to eat.

Another item on the seasonal menu was the Jerk Pork. This is served sizzling from the grill with peppers, onions, coleslaw and flatbread. The flavor and heat on the pork was done right.

The Schnitzel Burger was also on the seasonal menu This burger is stacked with 2 fried pork Schnitzel patties and is loaded down with sauerkraut, cheese and sauce. This thing could be a burger challenge.

Although for me, it’s a bit touristy, It's still a really fun place to explore with all of the lavish decorations and tons of memorabilia. We visited in October and a had a pretty fun time with good service and good food. Even if you are local like me, I would recommend you check them out.

Tabla

5827 Caravan Ct.
Orlando, FL 32819

View Website Here

A Tabla is a pair of small drums that have been fundamental to Hindustani music of northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh since the 18th century. Much like the musical sounds and instruments used in traditional Indian music, the foods found in those regions have become fundamental in shaping cuisine all over the world.

Tabla the restaurant is a place where visual creations for the palate will entice the eyes and enliven your senses.

The menu features a symphony of Indian, Chinese and Thai flavors and spices with classic dishes and new twists on old favorites. That's what makes tabla so unique. You can find Thai green curry and basil fried rice for a taste of Thailand, or fresh from the tandoor kababs, chicken tikka, and garlic naan for a taste of India and classics like general tso’s chicken with a side of crab rangoon for your Chinese food cravings. For something really tasty, the Indo-Chinese fusion dishes like the cauliflower Manchurian and lemon coriander soup are pretty exciting as well, as are the artistic versions of classics like mango tiramisu and gulab jamun brulee.

Tabla’s chef, Ian Piamonte is a culinary artist known for his original and inventive food presentations, which he attributes to his traditional training and inspiration from his Asian heritage. He joined the Tabla Culinary team after serving as the Banquet Chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.

The Guava Drink on the left is a cocktail that is not only good for your digestive system, but also compliments dishes that are hot and sour. The Mango Lassi pictured right is a popular and traditional yogurt based drink that is thick like a milkshake and quite flavorful.

The Papadum at Tabla is thin lentil wafers roasted in a tandoor oven served with a spicy sauce and a sweet sauce. Unique to Tabla, instead of being traditional thin round crisps. they roll the papadum up like an ice cream cone.

Gobi Manchurian is crispy cauliflower fritters fried up in a sweet, spicy and tangy sauce. Gobi cooked various ways is a traditional Indian food, but Gobi Manchurian is Indo-Chinese, and these tasted incredibly good.

Honey Chicken with dried chili is a classic Chinese dish made with honey glazed chicken tossed with chili and spring onions. This was pretty tasty as well, and I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing.

Although Crab Rangoon may seem basic, you can rest assured that Tabla’s crispy wontons with crab meat and cream cheese are far from your standard Chinese take out.

The Mixed Kabab platter features a variety of Seekh Kabab, Chicken Tikka, Hara Murgh and Malai Methi Kababs. These kabobs were loaded with flavor and lots of heat, but it was the kind of heat that makes you come back for more.

Lemon and Coriander Broth was full of fragrant lemongrass, piquant chillies, and sliced mushrooms.

Naan is a staple of Indian cuisine and can be found at almost every Indian restaurant you visit. The naan at Tabla is served with Garlic Cilantro, Green Chili, Chili Cheese, Cream Cheese and Mint spreads, but naan is also great to dip in a variety of things...like Tikka Masala with spiced tomato and coriander sauce with bell peppers and onion.

Pictured above is a collection of Indian, Chinese and Thai dishes that are great over rice, for dipping, with meats, or by themselves. Top left: General Tso’s Chicken, Top right: Green Curry, Center: Palak, Bottom right: Tikka Masala, Bottom left: Dal Makahani.

Indian dessert is certainly different if you are not accustomed to it, but don't let that keep you away. Cassata is a layered ice cream that is similar to Neapolitan ice cream, with three flavors.. usually pistachio, vanilla and strawberry on a base of sponge cake and topped with chopped nuts. This was a very light and refreshing dessert.

Gulab Jamun is a milk solids based dessert made from milk solids from freshly curdled milk. In India, milk solids are prepared by heating milk over a low flame for a long time until most of the water content has evaporated. The milk solids, known as khoya, are kneaded into a dough with a pinch of flour, and then shaped into small balls and deep fried at a low temperature. Afterwards they are soaked in a light sugary syrup flavored with green cardamom and rose water. Tabla’s version is a Gulab Jamun Brulee. As weird as this sounds, it was quite tasty.

Tabla has done an awesome job of taking traditional recipes and enhancing them with a modern approach and bringing the taste of Indian, Thai, and Chinese together all in one place. I have always enjoyed the unique sounds of the Tabla, the musical instrument, and I know I am going to be enjoying Tabla the restaurant just as much.

From pickles and onion rings to French fries and coleslaw, everything goes with a good burger – but nothing quite like a cold beer. The talented food and beverage teams at Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando have done their research, piecing together a perfect combination of unique burgers and brews. The resulting burger and craft beer pairing is not only delicious, but also complements Loews’ dedication to delighting guests with exciting and approachable local travel experiences.

At Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, the bowling alley will feature its popular Galaxy Bacon Cheeseburger paired with Cigar City Invasion Pale Ale.

Here is a sampling of what's on tap at Jake's American Bar...

Mexican Seafood Cocktail Shot with local fish, shrimp, scallop, avocado, cilantro, citrus tomato cocktail sauce paired with Cigar City Jai Alai. This was tangy and sweet with a dash of spice and very delicious.

B-52 Bomber Burger is a beef patty with braised short rib, caramelized onion, and horseradish cheddar paired with Jake’s American Red Lager and topped with onion rings. It was really quite a mouthful, but it was cooked perfectly medium and quite good. Jake's American Red is a very smooth and enjoyable beer, but it is only available at Loews Royal Pacific Resort.

From left to right… Jake's American Red, Boulevard Dark Truth Stout, Cigar City Jai Alai, Swamp Head Cotton Mouth.

The Churro Bread Pudding with salted caramel ice cream, spiced candied pecans was paired with Boulevard Dark Truth Stout and all of it was extraordinarily tasty.
Jake’s is open daily from 11:00 am - 1:30 am with a limited late night menu from 10:00 pm - 1:30 am. Locally inspired signature burgers paired with craft beers are available through the end of June. For more information or to arrange your stay, call 1-800-23-LOEWS or visit www.loewshotels.com.

Bob Marley: A Tribute To Freedom

6000 Universal Blvd.
Orlando, FL 32819
(407) 224-2264

Bob Marley’s at Universal Orlando City Walk is a one-of a kind celebration of music and culture as Bob Marley– A Tribute to Freedom takes you on a musical journey through the life of the "King of Reggae." Bob Marley’s songs of faith, hope, rebellion, and determination have brought inspiration and joy to audiences everywhere. Working closely with Rita Marley and the Bob Marley Foundation, they have created a replica of Bob’s home on 56 Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica. Inside you will find artifacts, photos, and video clips from his legendary career surrounding visitors in the open-air veranda and courtyard.

The cuisine features Jamaican-influenced appetizers, entrees and desserts. Some of the most popular items are the Oxtail Stew, the Sun is Shining grilled chicken breast marinated in Jamaican curry sauce, and the Taste of Jamaica appetizer platter featuring veggie & beef patties, mango wings and yucca fries.

Although the seasoning is pretty accurate for the most part, some of the heat has been dialed back a little bit, I suppose to appease the masses. After all, it is in a tourist corridor. We really enjoyed everything we had, but speaking as someone who has been to Jamaica, the heat on certain dishes could have been amped up a bit more.

Just about every night of the week you can expect a live Reggae band or various live acts at Bob Marley’s. Always good music and good vibes.

The Taste of Jamaica A tour of Island Flavors features veggie & beef patties, jerk wings, and yucca fries for 14.99. Everything was delicious, but lacked the proper Island heat that I remember from my last visit to Jamaica.
Catch A Fire Chicken Sandwich  with char grilled and  jerk seasoned chicken breast on coco bread with lettuce, tomato, cucumber sauce and yucca fries was pretty tasty. Coco bread is a mildly sweet bread made with coconut milk and is slightly starchy.

Sun is Shining Curry Chicken  with char grilled chicken breast that can be ordered bone in or boneless with Jamaican curry sauce, sweet corn, okra, white rice, seasonal vegetables, grilled pineapple and shredded coconut was a real palate pleaser.

The Reggae Jamaican Jerk Chicken  is a marinated bone-in half chicken that is char grilled and roasted served with Caribbean rice and beans and sweet plantains.  At $14.99 this is a pretty good deal. I was more than stuffed after eating this, and it was pretty damn good. It certainly is a “ Belly Full Entree”

Whether you want to go for the food or the music...or a little bit of both, Bob Marley : A Tribute To Freedom is certainly worth a visit. I dined with a party of three and the food, music and vibes were all good.
Bob Marley’s the  restaurant  is open from Sunday - Thursday 4pm - 10pm and Friday - Saturday 4pm - 11 pm. The Bar and nightclub portion goes from 9pm until 2am, and it’s 21 and older after 9pm with a $7.00 cover charge.
