Eleven at Reunion Resort

7593 Gathering Drive
Kissimmee, FL 34747
(407-662-1000)
View Website Here

Eleven, as you may have guessed is the restaurant located on the eleventh floor of the Reunion Grande, the resort's most luxurious one and two bedroom villas.

The restaurant is very chic and upscale and features an outdoor rooftop lounge that offers stunning views of the skyline and the nightly fireworks display from Disney's Magic Kingdom.

I've been there a few times in the past and have always had a great experience, but it has been a few years since my last visit. A lot can change in that time, especially in the restaurant business, and this time around it was to welcome an all new Chef.

I recently had the opportunity to meet Chef De Cuisine, Jake Brenchley, at a “Meet the Chef" media dinner to indulge in this modern rooftop steakhouse with a nouvelle feel and see how Chef Jake has elevated the epicurean experience at Eleven with a
masterfully re-crafted menu.

The name Eleven is not just a coincidence, but a central focus of the restaurant. The space encompasses the 11th story and rooftop of the Reunion Resort’s Grande tower, and is coupled with the comforts of a modern and progressive atmosphere and accented by farm to table elements.

The menu showcases a bounty of creatively prepared fare with 11 showcased ingredients and a signature 11 spice blend, all served from an exposed kitchen.

The menu at Eleven is full of handcrafted cocktails and steakhouse favorites that accentuate prime cuts of beef with rubs, sauces, and other enhancements available to add to your selection. This is certainly a modern steakhouse with a new cuisine feel.

The ambiance and decor here is pretty hard to match, and you cant beat the location. The open air veranda and nightly fireworks accent the sights and sounds of the open kitchen.

Although there is plenty of space to dine inside and outside at Eleven, the dynamic wine list and signature cocktail menu along with expanded by the glass selections can be enjoyed at the bar as well.

All good meals start with good bread, and the Parker House rolls served in a cast iron skillet with rosemary lavender butter are a great way to whet your appetite in anticipation for your steak. These are highly addictive, so be sure to leave some room for the rest of your meal.

Wagyu Beef Carpaccio is a great appetizer to share at the table, or eat it all by yourself. This is served with Baby Fennel, Foie Grois Cream and Gooseberry.

If you are not in the mood for a steak, Eleven also features Salmon, Sea Bass, and this wonderful roasted Halibut with lobster, almond milk, English peas, ramp pesto, and preserved lemon. This was served with Pinot Grigio.

The 1855 Ribeye is dry aged 21 days and was cooked to perfection. This cut of meat was tender, juicy and succulent and was highlighted by the flavor blend of the 11 spice blend of green peppercorns, pink peppercorns, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, garlic powder, chili powder, star anise, fennel seed, sumac and smoked paprika.

The steak was accompanied by Creamed Corn with grilled scallions and bacon fat. Other accompaniments we enjoyed were the Roasted Potato Gratin with yukon and sweet potatoes and the Pancetta Roasted Brussel Sprouts.

The dessert portion of the evening was something simple with a twist. The Preserved Raspberry Crumble with whipped brie gelato, rose petal sugar and mint spun sugar may appear to be something your grandmother would whip up, but the complexity of ingredients made this an interesting ending to our night.

Reunion resort is a spectacular place to visit, even if it's just for dinner. As mentioned earlier, at around 9:00 pm or so, if you are at Eleven restaurant, you do not want to miss the wonderful fireworks display from the neighboring Magic Kingdom.

Reunion Resort features 360 resort accommodations including luxury condominiums, private villas and vacation homes surrounded by 2,300 acres of lush landscape as well as a nature preserve. It is the only location in the United States with golf courses designed by the golf greats Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson.

The resort also features elegantly appointed meeting space, a full service boutique spa, multiple pools, slides, water playgrounds and a 1,000 foot lazy river… and oh by the way, there is even a rooftop pool outside on the 11th floor, just outside of the restaurant.

Mango's Tropical Cafe Orlando

8126 International Dr.
Orlando, FL 32819
(407) 673-4422

View Website Here

Mango’s Tropical Cafe, now in its 25th year on South Beach’s iconic Ocean Drive, has hosted thousands of private parties for individuals, families, offices, as well as celebrity functions and special events for large multinational corporations.

Mango’s Orlando, which opened in 2015, is a dream venue that changes the game on International Drive. It is a decadent design across 55,000 square feet that creates an epic experience people will always remember.

Many of you who follow my blog, know that I am often in Miami...especially during football season. I have been to the original South Beach location several times over the years, and it is always a spot I bring friends and family members to. The original Mango’s is iconic. If you watch TV, movies, sporting events, you have seen the neon lights of Mango’s more than once in your life.

Mango’s Tropical Cafe Orlando is the largest restaurant and banquet facility & nightlife destination on International Drive. Located near the Orange County Convention Center and all the I-Drive Hotels & Resorts, it’s the perfect place to entertain your guests. The Orlando Mango’s features lavish, unique private party areas and can accommodate up to 2,000 guests, at once.

The world famous Mango’s Dancers like the ones from South Beach, are carrying on the tradition at the Orlando location. The shows are full force and come alive with a dazzling array of lights, music, and talented performers who love what they do.

Mango’s dinner & show is a three course, prix fixe dining experience and is served nightly. The world famous Mango’s dancers along with a live band and DJ’s are sure to entertain. This show also features the Michael Jackson Tribute, The Celia Cruz Experience, Brazilian Samba Show, The Cuban Conga Show (featuring a customer Conga Line), and many others.

We were treated to the Aioli Chicken Lollipops with mango BBQ sauce for an appetizer, and they were pretty tasty little treats.

The homemade beef and chicken empanadas with Sriracha sauce are full of spicy and crunchy goodness.

You can't go to Mango’s and not have a drink. Any flavor of Mojito you get here will be delicious. The Pineapple Mojito is on the left, and the Coconut Mojito is on the right. Both were excellent.

My guests entree was the Florida Red Snapper sauteed with garlic and white wine sauce over mashed potatoes and vegetables. This was a good dish, but could have used less breading.

My entree choice was the Churrasco with mojo sauce, black beans and rice and sweet plantains. This was about as tropical as you can get and the churrasco was nice and tender.

Our first dessert to sample was the Chocolate Layer Cake. This was a very rich and moist slice of cake that is sure to satisfy your chocolate cravings.

The second dessert we tried was the Cheesecake. Although simple in concept, this cheesecake was delicious and really hit the spot for a dessert choice.

If you are looking for something different to do in Orlando, check out Mango’s. This place is way bigger than the original South Beach location and still produces the sounds and the vibe that made the original famous. Come for dinner and a show, or after dinner, bring your group of friends to celebrate an exciting night at Mango's, which is aiming to be the spot to go out in Orlando.

Every night of the week, enjoy incredible live music, amazing DJs, and a rocking dance floor across eight bars. You'll have an epic time like no other. Parking does fill up fast, so if you see a long line to get in, just park at the I-Drive 360 garage. There are plans already in the works to build a large parking garage next door that will more than accommodate everyone.

Mango's is open from 6:00 pm until 2:00 pm everyday except Sunday, as they open at 5:00 on Sunday.

View Website Here

In the past couple of years, and especially in 2015, the strip of road that runs up and down Hollywood beach and Hallandale beach has been undergoing major renovations.

Hollywood beach has always been a great beach town with an awesome boardwalk that stretches 2.5 miles, but the area has always needed some upgrades in regards to lodging and dining to truly make it a relevant and exciting beach town that could compete with the likes of Miami’s infamous South Beach.

There have been a few new resorts that have opened in the area this past year, like Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville resort and a few others, but none of them are bringing the style and class that the all new Beachwalk Resort is offering.

After opening its doors on May 1, 2015, Beachwalk Resort is offering guests an unparalleled experience that is on par with what you might find in South Beach. The resort has breathtaking beach and city views, with access to a private beach club at the new Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktails, and they even offer complimentary shuttle service to major hotspots in the area.

Rising 33 stories above the water, just one short block from the beach, the Beachwalk Resort lies at the very center of the most iconic recreational, residential, shopping, dining, and entertainment paradise on earth. One part land, one part sea, the Beachwalk Resort offers leisure travelers the Best of Both Worlds.

Located on the Intracoastal Waterway between Miami Beach to the south and Ft. Lauderdale to the north on Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the resort is one easy block away from the beach. This was one of the views from our balcony.

Our one bedroom /one bath suite was 738 square feet and had access to the oversized balcony that features stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway and the downtown skyline. The balcony adjoins both the master bedroom and living room in every suite. The master bedroom features a king bed and additional sleeping is available in the sectional sofa.

This is truly a state of the art fully equipped kitchen. You will not find micro refrigerators and useless kitchen equipment at Beachwalk Resort. All appliances are stainless steel, and the cabinets are fully stocked with cooking utensils and dishes.

All suites feature contemporary Italian furnishings, floor to ceiling windows and a spacious living room with access to the over sized balcony.

Yes, even the bathrooms here have a designer element. Our bathroom was very spacious and offered room for everyone to get ready with no crowding.

Upon arrival, you're greeted with a sleek and sophisticated lobby, reminiscent of world traveling. The interior is by Italian design Pininfarina, and it's complemented by curated works of art from the personal art collection of the developer, Jorge M. Perez, the CEO and founder of The Related Group. If you are an automotive enthusiast such as myself, then you are familiar with the name Pininfarina. They are an independent Italian car design firm and coachbuilder in Cambiano, Italy founded in 1930. Pininfarina was employed by a wide variety of automobile manufactures such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, FIAT, GM, Lancia, and Maserati, to name a few to design vehicles.

Beachwalk Resort has a fitness center with a view so you can maintain your workout routine while on vacation. This is a fully equipped fitness center with over 1,000 square feet of space that offers machines, free weights, and gorgeous views of the infinity pool.

Speaking of that infinity pool, Beachwalk Resort has an infinity edge pool that overlooks the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and Hallandale Beach. The pool area is conducive to spending an hour or an afternoon lounging poolside on a chaise lounge, or in a cabana for a more intimate experience.

Whether the mood calls for dining in, at the resort's Beachwalk Bistro & Market, on the beach or elsewhere, guests are given a variety of culinary options. For those wanting a quick to-go item, the bistro offers a variety of freshly made sandwiches, salads and refreshments.

Orlando Airport Marriott Lakeside

7499 Augusta National Drive
Orlando Florida 32822
407-857-6211

Often times, here in Orlando, we take our vast array of hotels for granted. We locals mostly think of other places to go outside of Orlando, or we keep an eye out for a great place to stay for tourists. Although it is very close to the Orlando International Airport, and is indeed a great place for tourists, the Orlando Airport Marriott Lakeside is a great place for locals to take a weekend getaway.

This property features 30,000 square feet of contemporary event space with on site meeting planners and catering readily available. Bike and fishing pole rentals allow guests to get out and enjoy the scenery around the hotel on Lake Michelle. Of course if fitness is your thing you can stay in shape with a 24 hour state of the art fitness center, or go for a swim in the indoor or outdoor pools.

When it comes to dining options, the locally sourced cuisine at Crimson Tavern presents an impressive array of delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I did a review of that fine establishment earlier in the year that you can see here. The restaurant can fit 80 people, the private dining room can seat up to 16, and semi-private dining on the upper deck is up to 30 guests.

Spacious rooms and suites boast soundproof floor-to-ceiling windows and pillow-top mattresses for a peaceful night's rest.

This was the view outside of our room, with a beautiful view of the pool and Lake Michelle.

Speaking of Lake Michelle, guests can relax lakeside, or you can make use of the free fishing poles to go fishing. We had a blast fishing off of the dock as well as at this nice and shady location.

The pool at Orlando Airport Marriott Lakeside is set up pretty nicely with a portion of it flowing inside next to the fitness center. In the inside portion of the pool, you will also find the hot tubs.

At night, the poolside area comes to life with fire pits and plenty of seating for a quiet romantic evening for your weekend or weekday getaway.

Located just a mile from Orlando International Airport, the hotel does offer a free shuttle service if you are visiting, but if you are an Orlando local, don't miss out on this gem in the Marriott portfolio. We really enjoyed our stay and slept like babies on those pillow top mattresses. Our day was filled with plenty of swimming, fishing, and poolside drinks with snack food provided by Crimson Tavern. It was a very relaxing stay and provided the perfect getaway, even if it was just a few miles from my house.

McFadden's

8291 International Drive
Orlando FL. 32819
407-930-2550

Ever since the Orlando Eye announced plans to open on International Drive, businesses and restaurants alike were in a hurry to open up shop and get in on such a great attraction that was sure to draw customers and plenty of tourists. Over the past year during the construction of the eye, and since its opening, there have been quite a few restaurants to open, and I can tell you with certainty, a few more are still in the process of being built.

I have had the pleasure of dining at almost all of those restaurants that are filling up the I-Drive complex that hosts the Orlando Eye, but Mcfadden's took me a little longer to get around to, so with haste, my sister and I made an appointment a few weeks ago to check out one of the newest tenants to the attraction.

McFadden’s is a franchise of sorts with 15 locations throughout the U.S. The original location was founded by an Irishman himself... Steve McFadden. That restaurant was established in New York City in 1977 and was called McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon, after the owners namesake. it is rumored that over 35 years later you can still find Steve enjoying a pint at the historic mahogany bar at the NY mainstay on the corner of 42nd and 2nd street.

McFadden’s has maintained its traditional Irish essence while establishing itself as a respected restaurant, after work meet up destination, and the ultimate party bar at night. When the lights go down the party turns up. With an attractive and fun staff, customers are always guaranteed to have a good time. Through special events, theme nights, drink specials and live DJs there is something to celebrate every night at McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon.

McFadden's Orlando features two outdoor patios, HD TVs for the ultimate sports viewing experience, and a delectable food menu featuring authentic Irish fare and American comfort food like gourmet burgers and signature appetizers and a mouth watering drink menu that features famous Fishbowl drinks.

The menu here is pretty big and has plenty of Irish favorites like Shepherd's pie, Fish & Chips and Corned Beef & Cabbage to name a few. The rest of the menu is laced with distinctive American style bar food creations that feature such oddities like Chicken & Bacon Pancakes, Loaded Tater Tots and Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings. Of course Guinness beer and a host of other beers are on tap at the bar as well as a slew of crazy cocktails like the “Leprechaun's Revenge”

Although it’s certainly not an authentic Irish creation, I could not refuse the Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings. Pretty simple beer battered rings, wrapped in bacon and served with a spicy ketchup for dipping, and yes they were pretty tasty because Bacon.

One of the many cocktails I sampled was the Mcfadden’s Mai Tai with Don Q and Myers Dark Rum, Grenadine, Orange Juice and Pineapple Juice. Of course we had quite a few Pickle Back shots as well.

For something more authentic, my sister ordered the Shepherd's Pie made with ground beef, vegetables, mashed potatoes and a red wine reduction. This was actually quite tasty, and spot on flavor wise.

Once again, I saw something strange on the menu that I had never eaten before, so I had to order the Chicken and Bacon Pancakes. This is two gigantic pancakes stuffed with fried chicken, bacon, smothered with sausage gravy and topped with maple syrup. It actually worked well together, but proved to be a bit more than I could eat in one sitting.

Although my heart was set on the bread pudding, my sister insisted on the Chocolate Lava Cake. This was a warm and gooey on the inside chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate sauce and served with ice cream. It was a good ending to a fun night.

The service was fast and attentive and we enjoyed all of our food and drinks. We arrived around 8:00 pm and found that as it got later in the evening, more people were arriving to get their party on. By the time we left, half of the restaurant was in full club mode full of young and old alike all enjoying themselves.

McFadden’s is open from 4 pm until 2 am everyday with various happy hour specials throughout the week and a $0.15 cent wing night on Wednesdays. You can stay updated on all of the happenings at McFadden’s Orlando by going to https://www.facebook.com/McFaddensOrlando
