Huey Magoo's

Huey Magoo’s was founded in 2004 by Matt Armstrong and Thad Hudgens, two southern boys with a passion for quality chicken and a penchant for serving others. Huey Magoo’s prides itself on providing great tasting chicken tenders in a clean, friendly environment, while showing their love for people.

Not only does Huey Magoo’s deliver delicious, fresh, cooked to order chicken tenders, they also use a special Never Ever Antibiotic free chicken that is never frozen. This means the chicken tenders you eat at Huey Magoo’s are as fresh as you can get and and is 100% antibiotic free.

It is with exacting purpose that you won’t find an extensive menu filled with dozens of options here. Burgers and burritos aren’t in their wheelhouse. They focus on delicious, fresh, cooked to order chicken tenders that are served grilled or fried, on their own, as part of a meal, or in a salad, sandwich or wrap.

Twelve years ago when tour golf professionals Matt Armstrong (aka "Huey") and Thad Hudgens (aka "Magoo") decided to get into the restaurant business, little did they know that one day their brand, Huey Magoo's Chicken Tenders, would entice some of the deepest talent in the industry.

Committed to building a culture of excellence in service and food quality by serving only premium hand breaded or grilled chicken tenders dipped or "sauced" in uniquely flavorful signature sauces, Huey Magoo's attracted a cult-like following of Millenials, families and neighboring businesses desiring quality, natural foods at reasonable prices.

It also attracted the attention of former Wingstop Executive Vice President Andy Howard, who helped grow the Wingstop chain from 80 stores to over 600 stores. As Huey Magoo’s Chief Executive Officer, Howard has assembled a team of industry power players to assist him in doing the same with Huey Magoo’s.

The Magoo’s Sandwich features hand breaded or grilled tenders, iceberg lettuce, and Magoo’s Sauce, served on Texas toast or a toasted bun and crinkle cut fries. You can also choose the house made potato chips which are delicious as well.

Here is a sample selection of the tenders offered at Magoo’s. We have the Buffalo sauced fried wings to the left, traditional breaded in the center and the grilled wings to the right. You won't find many people offering grilled wings, and these are pretty tasty. The real difference with tenders at Huey Magoo’s is in the chicken. The never ever antibiotic chicken and the fact that it's never frozen makes for a tender that is as juicy and tender as you possibly have. Hands down the the most tender chicken tender I have ever had.

The sauces offered for dipping at Huey Magoo’s are the Magoo sauce, a spicy Magoo sauce, Buffalo sauce and Spicy Buffalo or an Oriental Sweet Heat. All tenders that you request sauced can be sauced in Buffalo, Tangy BBQ, Zesty Garlic Parmesan, or Oriental Sweet Heat. Texas toast comes with most orders and coleslaw is another side item you can choose.

With this deeply experienced team assembled, Huey Magoo’s is poised to take their simple food and great taste of fresh made to order chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads, Texas toast, fries and tasty tea to the next level.

Already boasting four successful operating units in Oviedo, Altamonte Springs, Winter Springs and the UCF Student Union, Huey Magoo's will open two additional stores early next year at Millenia Gardens and Sand Lake/Dr. Phillips, with plans to open several more in Central Florida.

Huey Magoo's will also commence franchise sales with the initial focus on key Florida markets starting with Tampa and moving from Florida north and west to fan out across the country.

Chicken Salad Chick

Based in Auburn, Alabama, and founded in 2008, Chicken Salad Chick defines itself as a dine in restaurant that serves homemade chicken salad, side salads, desserts, and refreshing beverages.

The chain consists of 43 franchise restaurants and 8 company owned stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee with plans for expansion ongoing.

The company was built out of a love and passion for chicken salad and was started in a home kitchen by Stacy and Kevin Brown. Stacy was making her chicken salad at home and selling it out of the front door with overwhelming popularity, that eventually led to opening up the first stand alone location. It all started with the basic chicken salad recipe that was perfected by Stacy and now includes fifteen different varieties of chicken salad.

Flavors range from Olivia’s Old South with sweet pickles & egg, Fruity Fran with a blend of Fuji apples & seedless grapes, Cranberry Kelli, a mixture of dried, sweetened cranberries and slivered almonds, Nutty Nana with pecans & cashews all the way to Barbie-Q, Buffalo Barclay for wing lovers to the really hot Jalapeno Holly with diced jalapenos galore. We sampled every single flavor, to many to mention, but they were all very tasty and unique in their own way. All of the chicken salad and side salads are prepared fresh daily

The Pimento Cheese is a vegetarian option that was really flavorful. This is made with a blend of freshly grated sharp & pepper jack cheeses combined with just a smidge of creamy house dressing.

Side dishes at Chicken Salad Chick include a Pasta Salad with tri color rotini pasta in an Italian based dressing with feta and Parmesan cheeses, black olives and artichoke hearts, Broccoli Salad made with fresh broccoli florets tossed in a sweet vinegar based dressing with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, topped with crispy bacon, Grape Salad with red and white seedless grapes covered in a sweet cream cheese mixture, topped with brown sugar & crushed pecans or a cup of Fresh Fruit Chilled with freshly cut strawberries, blueberries and red and white seedless grapes.

All of the side items we tasted were really fresh and can be ordered with a combo, or as an individual side.

Although there is plenty of room inside to sit down and eat, the restaurant falls into the “Fast-Casual” category. After ordering your food, you grab a seat and someone brings your food out to you. Of course you can take your food to go as well.

If you are not sure what chicken salad you would like, just ask for a sample of the flavor you are curios about and you can taste a dallop by itself, or with a cracker.

You can order a large bowl of your preferred chicken salad for $10.99, or get a combo with a single scoop, or a sandwich on a variety of breads with one side item, a pickle and a cookie for $7.69. You can add another side for a dollar more. I ordered the Jalapeno Holly on a croissant with broccoli salad and a snickerdoodle cookie. It was very hot, and also very delicious.

My wife ordered the Kickin Kay Lynne on a croissant just as a sandwich only. This was an awesome combination of buffalo sauce, ranch, bacon, shredded cheddar cheese & jalapenos all in one chicken salad.

The menu also features soups and a handful of deli sandwiches like the Turkey Hoagie, Roast Beef, Virginia ham and a Pimento Cheese sandwich. If you have a lot of people to feed, Chicken Salad Chick also offers full service catering for your next party or event. They can prepare it for you and deliver it to your location, or even have the staff come set up your special event.

With 15 different chicken salad flavors and a full deli, there is something for everyone to choose at Chicken Salad Chick. The concept is really cool, and really southern and that's a good thing. We enjoyed our time here and felt like were in a down home atmosphere as we enjoyed our chicken salad and sipped on sweet tea.

In case you didn't know, July 29th is National Chicken Wing Day. Yes… It is a real day, but sadly, it has not been declared a national holiday as of yet. Don’t let that stop you from asking your employer if you are off on Wednesday, July 29th though, because National Chicken Wing Day is a culturally vital event celebrating one of America’s most important foods: chicken wings.

National Chicken Wing Day is religiously and politically neutral. There are no controversial or abrasive aspects of National Chicken Wing Day. Studies have shown that most American businesses observe lunch and wings are a great lunch resource. Best of all, on Wednesday, July 29th, National Chicken Wing Day, East Coast Wings & Grill is giving away 6 FREE Honey Barbecue wings with every adult entree purchase.

East Coast Wings & Grill caters to chicken wing lovers by offering dozens of varying chicken wing flavors that can be paired with nine heat intensities—resulting in hundreds of delicious choices. The extensive menu also includes salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers and more. The atmosphere is relaxed, family friendly but with plenty of TVs to watch all your favorite events.

East Coast Wings is committed to only using the highest quality ingredients. The jumbo wings are fresh never frozen. The sauces are prepared in-house and mixed to order. The chips are hand sliced from Idaho potatoes and cooked in small batches throughout the day. All of this attention to detail makes the food delicious.

One of my favorite appetizers are the Pub Pretzels served with your choice of Bourbon Honey Mustard or Sam Adams Craft Beer Cheese Sauce.

If bones aren't your thing, ECW has plenty of boneless options.

Sweet & Sour BBQ Shrimp Tacos feature lightly seasoned grilled shrimp smothered with sweet & sour BBQ sauce, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, chipotle sour cream, and aged
shredded cheddar cheese.

Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps with baby romaine lettuce leaves and diced sautéed chicken breast, carrots, onions, and celery all tossed with wing sauce (choose from mild, medium, hot, or x-hot)

The ECW Buffalo Chicken Sandwich starts with seasoned chicken breast chargrilled or hand breaded to order, dipped in wing sauce (choose from mild, medium, hot, or x-hot), topped with melted provolone cheese, then stacked on sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and ECW Signature Ranch on a lightly grilled bun.

The dessert lover in you will love the Original Cookie Skillet with chocolate chip cookies baked fresh on a skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

If Monday’s are boring, you can stop by ECW from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for “All You Can Eat Wings" for only $12.99. The Wings are served with homemade chips, Texas toast, celery, carrots and dressing.

So get on out to East Coast Wings & Grill and get your chicken wing thing on for National Chicken Wing Day, or any day for that matter.

East Coast Wings & Grill is open Sunday – Thursday from 11AM – 10PM and Friday & Saturday from 11AM – 11PM.

Marlow's Tavern

1008 S. Orlando Avenue (17-92)
Winter Park, FL 32789
(407) 960-3670
View Website Here

Marlow's Tavern is a slightly more upscale and gourmet take on a neighborhood grill and bar. It's a great place to meet up with family and friends, but it is also intimate and cozy enough for a date and dine.

Based in Atlanta, the restaurant chain has thirteen locations in Georgia and currently there are two in Central Florida, with plans for more. The first Marlow's tavern opened up at Pointe Orlando on International Drive in 2012 and the Winter Park location opened up in 2013. The Winter Park location took over a former Mc Donalds, and they are making good use of the old Mc Donalds indoor playground by turning into an indoor patio-bar.

The menu at Marlow's features a selection of American tavern fare with a combination of classic dishes that include everything from burgers to wraps to shrimp and grits. The inside design is focused on modern comfort utilizing a black and white motif to create a sleek fashionable look. That overall look and design is accented by black and white photographs and Chicago style brick walls at most locations.

A neighborhood feel is also accomplished with an open kitchen that invites diners to observe the chefs at work and communal tables surround the bar areas. Each Marlow's also features several flat screen TVs that  are discreetly incorporated, “in-the-round”, allowing guests to enjoy a variety of shows while they dine.

I recently met up with some family members here to have a family dinner and celebrate a few birthdays towards the end of December. Although the atmosphere was a little odd at first, the food was really good.

J.T.’s Kettle Chips are crispy potato chips topped with Gorgonzola cheese, bacon, Roma tomato and scallions, and are a great way to start your meal.

While I applaud the effort, the Truffled Parmesan Fries really lacked any serious flavor, they were OK, but just kind of plain.

I was however, impressed with the Prime Rib French Dip. This was moist, tender and flavorful down to the last bite.

Burgers are a strong point for Marlow's and the Tavern Burger is no exception. Thick, juicy and delicious.

The Roast Turkey Club with organic turkey, avocado spread, baby arugula, Roma tomato, apple-wood smoked bacon and provolone on a Toasted Ciabatta bun was simple yet good.

I am a big fan of Shrimp & Grits, so I almost always try them out if they are offered at any restaurant. The white cheddar grit cake and spinach combined with succulent shrimp at Marlow's is top notch.

The Buffalo Chicken Wrap may sound ordinary, but with spicy chicken, shredded lettuce, tomato, jalapeno jack cheese, ranch dressing in a grilled tortilla, I can assure you its no ordinary wrap.

We didn't have room for dessert, partially because we really enjoyed the Stella on draught.

Overall Marlow’s is a great meeting place for all seasons. They have spacious and open areas that allow guests to enjoy cocktails and great foods at a reasonable price. Check them out sometime soon. Marlow's is open from 11:30 am to 12:00 am.

Smashburger

334 N. Alafaya Trail
Orlando FL. 32828
(407) 203-6081
View Website Here

Orlando’s first two Smashburger locations are open for business with a featured menu created with regional flavors and tastes in mind.

Smashburger is another addition to the fast casual burger concept with more than 290 corporate and franchise restaurants operating in 30 states and in five international countries. The company began in 2007 with the vision of Rick Schaden and funding by Consumer Capital Partners—the private equity firm that he and his father Richard own. By offering fresh, premium “smashed to order” burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, signature side items and hand-spun shakes, Smashburger has modernized the way people think about burgers.

Known for localizing its menu in every market with regionally inspired burgers, side items and local craft beers, Smashburger has received numerous awards, including topping Fast Casual’s 2012 Top Mover & Shakers list, America’s Most Promising Company by Forbes magazine, INC. 500’s List of America’s Fastest Growing Companies and INC’s #9 Hire Power Award winner, as well as regularly receiving “best burger” awards in cities around the world.  The Orlando menu includes the Central Florida Smashburger and chicken sandwich with melted Wicked pimina cheese, fried green tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise & Gulden’s spicy brown mustard on an egg bun.

At Smashburger, the secret is in the smash. It starts with 100-percent fresh, never frozen, All-natural Certified Angus Beef and is smashed on a 400 degree flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. To further the “better burger” experience, the delicious burgers are served on toasted artisan buns and topped with a selection of fresh produce, real cheeses, and high quality condiments.

The menu is more than just burgers, as customers can enjoy a selection of tender marinated grilled or crispy chicken sandwiches and fresh tossed signature salads, along with a variety of irresistible sides. Some unique side items include the rosemary and garlic seasoned Smashfries, Haystack Onions, and Veggie Frites (flash-fried and seasoned carrot sticks and green beans). The restaurant will also serve a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages ranging from handspun shakes, root-beer floats in frosted mugs and beer.

The East Colonial Drive location was the first location to open in Orlando. The second Orlando location on N. Alafaya Trail is 3000 square-feet and has dining room seating to accommodate 102 guests.

Of course we sampled just about everything, so check out the photos below.

In addition to seasoned "Smash Fries" and regular fries, the Sweet Potato Fries were crispy and delicious.

The Veggie Frites are a healthier choice for those of you wanting to cut back a little.

Of course, you can never go wrong with Fried Pickles.

The salad was pretty tasty as well, if you are not up for a burger.

One of my favorites was the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar Burger with crispy fried onion strings.

The Truffle Mushroom Swiss was a blissful burger to eat as well.

For some spice in your life, the Spicy Jalapeno Baja Burger is where the heat is. It even has a chipotle bun.

The Central Florida Smashburger with melted Wicked pimina cheese, fried green tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise & Gulden’s spicy brown mustard on an egg bun was pretty damn good.

If you want a break from beef, the Spinach, Cucumber and Goat Cheese Smashchicken sandwich will do the trick.

The Buffalo and Bleu Cheese crispy smashchiken offers up a nice burn with great flavor.

Hand spun Haagen Dazs milkshakes are available in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Oreo, Chocolate Oreo, Nutter Butter, Salted Caramel and Butterfinger and PB&J and are a must have on your visit to Smashburger.

I enjoyed everything I tasted at Smashburger and think they are a great addition to Orlando. After all...you can never have too many good hamburger places. Pricing is moderate and in line with other fast casual chains.

Regular restaurant hours for both restaurants are 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM daily. Local fans are also encouraged to join Smashburger’s Smash Club. Smash Club members receive the latest news, tastiest promotions and exclusive coupons.
