Earl's Kitchen + Bar

4200 Conroy Rd
Orlando, FL 32839
(407) 345-8260

Some 30 years ago in Edmonton, a city in Alberta, Canada, Leroy Earl Fuller and his son Stanley Earl Fuller had a simple idea: a laid back burger & beer joint. When the restaurant started, there was no question about what the name would be. It had to be called Earls.

The tradition of Earls is centered on dishes that make people want to come back for more: house made sauces, locally sourced ingredients, and now, innovative chef led experiments that are getting the industry's attention through the Earls Chef Collective.

Earls is one of North America’s most successful, family owned, independent restaurant groups, currently operating 67 restaurants across North America. From humble beginnings as a laid back beer and burger joint, Earls grew into a beloved brand with multiple locations across North America that now offer upscale casual dining and drinking environments. Earls Orlando is the 68th restaurant with an opening in Boston also scheduled for summer 2017.

Art is an important design element in Earls’ beautiful modern spaces. The design team always identifies local artists to create work that complements the restaurant, in this case iconic Florida photographs from Brian Soderlind and a huge mural from Andrew Spear that pays homage to Orlando’s orange groves and parrots with an abstract landscape entitled “Juice Birds.”

Guests enter into the lounge, central to which is a large, circular walnut clad bar with black granite tops surrounded by deep berry clubby leather chairs. From there, it’s up a slight level into the vibrant dining room; with every seat offering a view of the action in the open kitchen.

Diners will enjoy an expansive menu that encourages convivial shared dining. In keeping with the menu’s global focus, appetizer highlights include Tuna Poke, Sicilian Calamari and classics like crisp Caesar Salads and Cajun Chicken.

Made to order entrees are paired with dressings and sauces made in house daily, among them are Earl's’ signature Jeera Chicken Curry and BBQ Ribs, fresh Atlantic Salmon, Creekstone Farms Black Angus steaks and burgers, and a variety of main plate salads, sandwiches and irresistible sides perfect for lunch.

Cocktails, non alcoholic beverages, wine and beer are an important part of the Earls Kitchen + Bar experience. With a commitment to using only 100% fresh squeezed in house juices, Earls’ craft cocktails are infused with seasonal ingredients. Local beers on tap are complemented by a curated list of national and international quaffs and a comprehensive list of wines on tap by the glass, as well as bottles.

Beverage Director Cameron Bogue, who prior to joining Earls developed cocktails for Daniel Boulud’s restaurant group, has designed an innovative menu of updated classic cocktails and house specialties with intriguing options including the frozen Harvey Wallbanger, Old Fashioned and the Earl's Signature Caesar, the Canadian take on the classic Bloody Mary.

The Grapefruit Negroni is a mixture of bombay dry gin, campari, aperol, carpano antica, fernet branca and grapefruit.

One of the better Moscow Mule’s I’ve had in Orlando, Earl’s version is pretty simple with smirnoff vodka, ginger and fresh lime.

There are a few sushi rolls available on the starters menu, like this Dynamite Roll with shrimp, mango and avocado sushi, sriracha mayonnaise, black sesame and unagi maple. This was a pretty decent roll.

The Korean Hot Wings are a must try item. These are wings in a spicy red pepper glaze with fried onions and sesame seeds. They are addictive and delicious.

Sicilian Calamari is topped with oven dried tomatoes, cucumber, olives, herb salad, greek citrus and yogurt. This is battered in a gluten aware flour.

Tuna Poke features albacore tuna, mango, avocado, spicy lime dressing, macadamia nuts and is served with warm house made tortillas.

Steak and Sushi is a great dinner combo at Earl’s. It's made with marinated steak, ponzu sauce and sesame seeds. When you order this you choose either a dynamite roll or California roll to accompany it.

The Jeera Curry was excellent. This is a cumin spiced potato curry with garam masala, turmeric, paprika and red chilies finished with a touch of cream served with rice with baked naan.

Hunan Kung Pao is an Asian dish made with ginger soy sauce, wok fried vegetables noodles, and roasted peanuts. For the brave lovers of heat, you can customize this dish by adding 1 to 6 hunan peppers.

Atlantic Salmon with feta, caper and dill aioli, jasmine rice and seasonal vegetables is a lighter option at Earl’s and was quite good.

The Sticky Toffee Chocolate Pudding is my favorite dessert on the menu. They have a nice selection of desserts, but this thing is heavenly. Made with a warm pudding cake, chocolate and toffee sauces, with vanilla bean ice cream and a candy snap, you won't have any of this left over and will be tempted to lick the plate clean.

Happy Hour takes it up a notch at Earls with twice daily sessions Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm and again from 9pm to midnight offering specials on wine, beer, cocktails and appetizers.

Eearl’s also offers a selection called “Weekly Rituals” with tempting promotions running Monday through Thursday with nightly specials on kitchen offerings, different craft cocktails, craft beers and even “That’s How We Roll Tuesdays” featuring $3 sushi rolls and half priced bottles of wine.

Brunch is served on weekends and offers items like a spicy Mushroom and Chorizo Hash, or a fruit and berry laden Sourdough French Toast.

Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar Renovations Near Completion

1234 N. Orange Ave.
Winter Park, FL 32789

Restaurant industry veteran Fred Thimm (Hard Rock, The Palm), has begun renovations at a well known Winter Park address that will soon house his first independent venture, Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar.

Taking its inspiration from classic Florida fish camps and offering coastal cuisine in an inland setting, the restaurant will specialize in sustainably sourced seafood from the Sunshine State’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Remodeling is currently underway in the building recently vacated by The Ravenous Pig at 1234 Orange Ave. Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar anticipates opening by early February 2017. Seating capacity will be 150.

“Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar will be a contemporary version of a classic fish camp, serving fresh Florida seafood prepared in a southern style and served in a casual, family friendly environment,” said Thimm. “With Winter Park being located almost directly between Florida’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts we’re in the perfect place to receive daily shipments from the state’s top sustainable seafood purveyors.”

The kitchen at Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar will be led by chefs Michael Zajac and Michael Huffler. Zajac, an alumnus of Houston’s restaurants and former owner of High Cotton in Atlanta, will oversee developing the culinary team. Huffler will spearhead the restaurant’s daily blackboard specials and core recipes, which will feature creative takes on fresh-caught fish not typically found on many inland Florida seafood restaurant menus, including tile fish, trigger fish, sheephead, hogfish and other local species.

The Reel Fish menu will also include fish camp classics like fried seafood platters, Shrimp & Creamy Cheese Grits, whole fried market fish, such as yellow tail snapper, and Low Country Boils featuring shrimp, bay scallops and crab legs.

Central to the restaurant will be a raw bar serving oysters on the half shell, broiled and steamed, as well as ceviche and peel & eat fresh Florida shrimp. For the meat lover, Reel Fish’s offerings will include farm-to-table, GMA-free beef & brisket blend burgers from Creekstone Farms, as well as a rotating selection of premium beef cuts. Signature salads will include the Shrimp & Avocado Louie and a fresh tuna salad.

The bar at Reel Fish will offer “coastal cocktails”, local craft beers and a boutique list of sought after reasonably priced wines curated by Alex Plotkin, owner of Chops Restaurant in Philadelphia and former National Director of Wine & Spirits for The Palm. Reel Fish will also offer happy hour food and beverage specials at the bar daily.

Overseeing day-to-day operations at the restaurant will be Chrissy Benoit, who recently joined Reel Fish as General Manager. Benoit brings extensive hospitality industry experience with her, including more than a decade owning and operating popular South Florida establishments The Little House Restaurant, Adventurous Palate and Havana Hideout.

In 2009, Benoit and Havana Hideout were featured on the acclaimed Food Network’s series Diners, Drive-in and Dives. In 2013, The Little House, which Benoit designed, received a prestigious “Outstanding Renovation” Award from the Florida Redevelopment Agency for rescuing a historic cottage in Boynton Beach and giving it new life as a “charming and lively restaurant.”

Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar will open to the public on Thursday, Feb. 9 for dinner service only. Weekend brunch service will debut on Feb. 18-19 and lunch service will begin on Tuesday, March 7. Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar will be open every Tuesday through Sunday.

Gitto's Pizza

120 S Orange Ave.
Orlando, FL 32801
(407) 203-8889

It’s safe to say, you haven't really been out to Downtown Orlando if you've never stopped in to Gitto's for a late night slice. Gitto’s used to be known as Gino’s Pizza and was a downtown staple for over 15 years until the V group stepped in and bought the place.

Not much has changed since the new ownership and it’s still the premier spot in downtown to grab a slice. They are open from 9:00 am until 5:00 am. So if you want pizza for breakfast, lunch or dinner, they have you covered. Of course on weekends after a night of clubbing or bar hopping they are the go to spot to grab a giant slice of pie and help absorb some of the alcohol in your system.

At Gitto's Pizza the concept is simple: fresh ingredients made in traditional yet innovative ways. From the Italian classics to daringly creative topping combinations, Gitto's offers hand tossed pizzas that will satisfy everyone's taste.

Slices start at $4.00 and whole pies go for $19.00 for a small and up to $31.00 for a Jumbo. The supreme has the usual toppings of pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, meatballs, onions, peppers, mushroom and broccoli. All individual slices come with a complimentary garlic knot.

The aptly named Spinach, Tomato and Ricotta pizza is a white pizza with fresh spinach mix, sliced tomatoes and Romano cheese. This is a very good option with great flavor.

Once you order your pizza, if there is room, head on upstairs to the redesigned second floor of this familiar downtown pizzeria, where you can dine and drink. Gitto’s offers a seasonal beer and wine menu in a comfortable and casual environment.

As I said earlier, if you have not been to Gitto’s, you have not had the full Downtown Orlando experience. Whether you are a local or a tourist, Gitto’s is a perfect place to people watch and grab a drink and a slice before a night out, or after your night out in Downtown Orlando.

Service is fast and friendly and they always have a good selection of pies ready for you to choose for whatever you are craving.

Be sure to check out the chalkboard to see what the "Creation of the Day" pizza is.

Huey Magoo's

4293 Alafaya Trail,
Oviedo, FL 32765
(All Locations)
(407)- 977-0213
View Website Here

Huey Magoo’s was founded in 2004 by Matt Armstrong and Thad Hudgens, two southern boys with a passion for quality chicken and a penchant for serving others. Huey Magoo’s prides itself on providing great tasting chicken tenders in a clean, friendly environment, while showing their love for people.

Not only does Huey Magoo’s deliver delicious, fresh, cooked to order chicken tenders, they also use a special Never Ever Antibiotic free chicken that is never frozen. This means the chicken tenders you eat at Huey Magoo’s are as fresh as you can get and and is 100% antibiotic free.

It is with exacting purpose that you won’t find an extensive menu filled with dozens of options here. Burgers and burritos aren’t in their wheelhouse. They focus on delicious, fresh, cooked to order chicken tenders that are served grilled or fried, on their own, as part of a meal, or in a salad, sandwich or wrap.

Twelve years ago when tour golf professionals Matt Armstrong (aka "Huey") and Thad Hudgens (aka "Magoo") decided to get into the restaurant business, little did they know that one day their brand, Huey Magoo's Chicken Tenders, would entice some of the deepest talent in the industry.

Committed to building a culture of excellence in service and food quality by serving only premium hand breaded or grilled chicken tenders dipped or "sauced" in uniquely flavorful signature sauces, Huey Magoo's attracted a cult-like following of Millenials, families and neighboring businesses desiring quality, natural foods at reasonable prices.

It also attracted the attention of former Wingstop Executive Vice President Andy Howard, who helped grow the Wingstop chain from 80 stores to over 600 stores. As Huey Magoo’s Chief Executive Officer, Howard has assembled a team of industry power players to assist him in doing the same with Huey Magoo’s.

The Magoo’s Sandwich features hand breaded or grilled tenders, iceberg lettuce, and Magoo’s Sauce, served on Texas toast or a toasted bun and crinkle cut fries. You can also choose the house made potato chips which are delicious as well.

Here is a sample selection of the tenders offered at Magoo’s. We have the Buffalo sauced fried wings to the left, traditional breaded in the center and the grilled wings to the right. You won't find many people offering grilled wings, and these are pretty tasty. The real difference with tenders at Huey Magoo’s is in the chicken. The never ever antibiotic chicken and the fact that it's never frozen makes for a tender that is as juicy and tender as you possibly have. Hands down the the most tender chicken tender I have ever had.

The sauces offered for dipping at Huey Magoo’s are the Magoo sauce, a spicy Magoo sauce, Buffalo sauce and Spicy Buffalo or an Oriental Sweet Heat. All tenders that you request sauced can be sauced in Buffalo, Tangy BBQ, Zesty Garlic Parmesan, or Oriental Sweet Heat. Texas toast comes with most orders and coleslaw is another side item you can choose.

With this deeply experienced team assembled, Huey Magoo’s is poised to take their simple food and great taste of fresh made to order chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads, Texas toast, fries and tasty tea to the next level.

Already boasting four successful operating units in Oviedo, Altamonte Springs, Winter Springs and the UCF Student Union, Huey Magoo's will open two additional stores early next year at Millenia Gardens and Sand Lake/Dr. Phillips, with plans to open several more in Central Florida.

Huey Magoo's will also commence franchise sales with the initial focus on key Florida markets starting with Tampa and moving from Florida north and west to fan out across the country.
