World Of Beer UCF

Most of us Floridians are very familiar with the craft beer chain known as World Of Beer, especially since they started in Tampa.

Since opening that first location in 2007, WOB has grown to more than 70 locations in 20 states. What began as a neighborhood tavern to sample great craft beers and swap beer talk has grown into a unique cultural phenomenon celebrating the world of craft beers and camaraderie.

Now, in addition to 500 craft beers and 40 rotating taps daily, WOB is changing the game once again with a variety of delicious food that pairs perfectly to whatever you’re drinking at the moment. World of Beer UCF’s newest addition, the signature “Tavern Fare” menu features a variety of elevated comfort food that provides the perfect marriage of food and beer for the ultimate experience.

The “Tavern Fare” lineup of pub inspired foods has something for everyone with WOB tavern shares that include an authentic German Pretzel, Sriracha Lime Shrimp Tacos, Black and Blue Flatbread, Guinness Brat Sliders and Belgian Waffle S’Mores to name a few. The menu also has plenty of tasty and hearty sandwiches like the Chimay Burger, Chicken Pesto Sandwich and even a classic Reuben.

This pretzel’s original Bavarian recipe was created by Germany’s most sought after artisan pretzel baker, Ossi Piller, and dates back more than 100 years. Served with house made stone ground mustard, this pretzel was delicious and fun to eat all at once. For an additional $2.00 you can grab the house made beer cheese, which was pretty awesome too. Try it with a Narragansett Pale Lager.
The Spring Greens & Kale Salad features spring greens & kale with goat cheese, apples, sweet pickled red onions & candied pecans tossed in a Framboise vinaigrette. Pair it with St. Louis Premium Framboise.

A very impressive Artisan Sausage Board was served up with a trio of jalapeño cheddar, cracked black pepper and hickory smoked sausages. Served with spicy pickled green beans, peppadew peppers & our house made stone ground mustard. Pair it with Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest.

Sriracha Lime Shrimp Tacos are stuffed with beer battered shrimp tossed in WOB’s homemade Sriracha lime aioli and served on tortillas with roasted corn and tomato salsa with shredded lettuce and fresh cilantro. Pair it with an IPA of your choice.

The Belgian Waffle S’mores are light & crispy, fresh baked, Belgian beer-infused waffles with toasted marshmallow, drizzled with a Kahlúa fudge sauce, & topped with graham cracker crumbles & powdered sugar. These were a most awesome dessert. Try them with a Sprecher Imperial Stout.

Priced between $5 and $15, every dish pairs perfectly with WOB-UCF’s vast selection of local and global craft beers, and are perfect to share with friends. At World of Beer, they want to take you on a taste journey so you can enjoy the great flavors and aromas of great beers, and enhance your experience with delicious food on the Tavern Fare menu. The combination gives you the ultimate craft tavern experience.

WOB UCF is open Monday to Sunday from 11:30 am until 2:00 am

McCoy's Oceanfront

1200 N Ocean Blvd.
Pompano Beach, FL 33062
(954) 782-0100

In addition to being a really fun and unique resort style hotel, the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort and Spa also has some pretty good food on tap at McCoy’s Oceanfront restaurant.

McCoy’s is known for its contemporary presentations of seasonal, local and sustainable ingredients with a focus on Florida seafood that is served in a casual ocean view setting. The beachfront restaurant and lounge pays homage to its Prohibition-era namesake with a classic cocktail menu featuring fresh pressed juices and dark spirits that channel McCoy’s rum-running days. If old fashioned cocktails aren't your thing, McCoy’s also offers an extensive wine list and a nice selection of beers.

The menu stays true to what you would expect a South Florida oceanside restaurant to offer with a great selection of seafood entrees. Some of those entrees include Florida Pompano, Crispy Skin Florida Snapper, Blackened Salmon, and a Five Spice Grilled Tuna. For you non seafood lovers, they also have a wonderful Sauteed Short Rib, Pork Paillard and Farro Risotto among other offerings.

McCoy’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At breakfast you can order a la carte off the menu, or you can opt for the buffet. The buffet is full of wonderful choices and is not your average continental breakfast. Home fries, eggs and omelets cooked to order, applewood smoked bacon, sausage egg and cheese stuffed biscuits and buttermilk pancakes are just a few of the selections.

McCoy’s prides itself on custom cocktails and the Giggle Water with Crop Organic cucumber vodka and fresh lemonade pictured left, and the Alderman’s Mule with New Amsterdam vodka, fresh lime juice and ginger beer were pretty tasty libations.

The Fried Green Tomato Mozzarella is stacked with thick slices of mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes and fried green tomatoes with pesto and a balsamic glaze.

Spicy Tuna Tartar is an elegant display of fresh and spicy tuna with avocado, wakame and wontons for dipping.

You can't go to Pompano Beach and not get the namesake fish. The Florida Pompano at McCoy's is flour dusted and Fried and served with Yukon potatoes, lemon white wine butter sauce and baby arugula. The taste and preparation of this fish was simply amazing.

The Braised Short Rib with caramelized fennel mash and oyster mushroom haricot verts with a horseradish cream sauce is an outstanding dish. The short rib itself was wonderful, but just as impressive was the caramelized fennel mash.

Whether you want lunch or dinner, McCoy's has you covered. The Avocado Turkey Burger served on a honey wheat bun with ground turkey and an avocado puree was a delicious choice with plenty of flavor.

If you're not sure about what to have for dessert, try the Best Of Both Worlds with a chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, creme brulee and a raspberry coulis. Very light, and very good.

McCoy’s is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have featured Chef Specials throughout the year, as well as a daily Happy Hour from 5 to 7pm. Live entertainment often continues throughout the weekend, ranging from an island tropical vibe to mainstream music.

When deciding where to stay for a fun getaway, there are certainly lots of good hotels and condos available along the shores of South Florida, which I personally believe have some of the best beaches in the world. But, why settle for good when you can have great?

The Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort & Spa is really a bit of a hidden gem, and is actually more of a boutique style resort that caters to leisure and business travelers alike. While no two Marriott properties are the same, this location really delivers the best of the resort lifestyle with the simple pleasures of Florida beach living.

During my stay here, I really kept asking myself if I was at a hotel in Florida, or had I been mysteriously transported to a resort in the Caribbean? The resort is set on the oceanfront in Pompano Beach, a city that is ripe for discovery and one that has recently been named one of the top 10 “up-and-coming” U.S. destinations by TripAdvisor. So if you want to venture outside of your little slice of paradise, there is more than enough to keep you occupied. If you need something for your business, you can utilize a grand total of nearly 4,000 square feet of meeting space for a customized event that will have guests talking for years.

Guests of Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach can enjoy fresh local fare and speakeasy style drinks at McCoy’s Oceanfront where you can enjoy a classic cocktail menu that features fresh pressed juices and dark spirits paired with seasonal seafood in a casual setting. If you want to be pampered, you can treat yourself to a well deserved massage, facial, manicure/pedicure, body scrub or waxing as you hear the therapeutic waves crash outside of SiSpa. Of course there is the poolside relaxation with two pools and a hot tub and beach access with water sports.

What's really impressive is the fact that private balconies with views of the Atlantic Ocean are afforded to all of its generously appointed 194 guest rooms and 25 suites. This was my view.

Speaking of those guest rooms and suites, after you're done indulging in stunning ocean views from your private balcony, you can get a peaceful night's sleep on pillow top mattresses, in a very spacious room. After your beauty rest you can wake up to a Florida sunrise and start the day with a newspaper delivered to your room upon request.

If you want to keep in shape and keep up that beach body, Marriott Pompano Beach has you covered there as well. Not only do they have the latest in top of the line cardiovascular equipment, with free weights, treadmills, elliptical machines and bikes, but the fitness center also includes a stunning view of the ocean skyline.

All work and no play makes for a dull day, so you must go outside and play. There are two very nice swimming pools and a fantastic hot tub on the property with plenty of lounge chairs and towels for all. If the beach is calling your name, you can enjoy private access to a gorgeous beach with Jet skis’ available, Surfing and Volleyball, or you can just relax and chill in a private cabana.

Night time is the perfect time to hang out with family and friends, and Marriott Pompano Beach has plenty of things to keep the conversation going all night long. The fire pit was a hot spot, literally and figuratively during my stay and many people seemed to enjoy drinks from McCoy’s and conversation by the fire with a cool ocean breeze at night. The pools and hot tub are also open at night.

If you are planning on making a charming holiday escape with the comforts of home, look no further than Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort as they have a special “Home Away From Home for the Holidays” package available now.

Available for stays from November 1, 2015 through January 2, 2016, the Home Away From Home for the Holidays package includes overnight accommodations (based on a two-night minimum stay), daily buffet breakfast at McCoy’s Oceanfront, a special delivery of a gingerbread house kit for in-room family fun, Kids Club access for one-half day for up to two children, a 15 percent discount on all treatments at SiSpa, and a Shopper’s Savings Book courtesy of The Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale. Rates start at just $199 per night. For reservations call 954-782-0100 or visit www.pompanomarriott.com.

I was really impressed with this Marriott property and was sad to leave. Everything here from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave is first rate, and they have done a wonderful job of transporting guests to a unique slice of paradise. In case you don't take my word for it, the resort just received the 2015 Orbitz Worldwide “Best in Stay Elite Award” fronting the area’s finest beach and providing its guests with the simple pleasures of Florida beach living.
