When it comes to Cuban sandwiches in Central Florida, there are quite a few places that offer up the simple delightful sandwich. However not all are the same.
As a person who frequents the Miami area quite often...and as someone who is a fan of Cuban food, I can tell you that Cuban Sandwiches To Go is about as close as you will get to an authentic Cuban Sandwich this side of Miami.
Sure there are other places that offer up a variety of different styles and a few different takes on the classic....but this one is spot on.
There is some debate as to what makes a "True Cuban" sandwich, most are generally agreed upon. The traditional Cuban sandwich starts with Cuban bread. The loaf is sliced into lengths of 8-12 inches (20–30 cm), lightly buttered or brushed with olive oil on the crust, and cut in half horizontally.
A coat of yellow mustard is spread on the bread. Then roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss cheese, and thinly-sliced dill pickles are added in layers. Sometimes the pork is marinated in mojo and slow roasted.
When assembled, the sandwich is usually lightly toasted in a sandwich press called a plancha, which is similar to a panini press but without grooved surfaces. The plancha both heats and compresses the sandwich, which remains in the press until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted. It is usually cut into diagonal halves before serving.
You can also get side items like Fried Plantains, Home Made Black Bean Soup, Stuffed Potatoes, Quesitos and of course...Cafe Con Leche and Espresso.
Cuban Sandwiches To Go has been in business over 20 years at the same location...and that tells you they are doing something right!
Monday through Friday they are usually packed for lunch. Although the name implies a fast service grab and go sandwich shop...be prepared to wait.
Cuban Sandwiches To Go takes about 15-20 minutes to get your order out to you.
They make everything fresh while you wait. This guarantees you will have a delicious juicy Cuban Sandwich served on a perfectly crisped piece of that delicious bread they use.
Two things to consider before you visit...
#2. Closed Sundays
Other than that...Tastes Of Orlando recommends you to go and get your Cuban Sandwich To Go!!!!
